Speelstad Oranje

Postby hansrubens » Tue May 12, 2009 11:08 am

Hi everyone,

This tripreport is dedicated to the most insane indoor themepark of the Netherlands "Speelstad Oranje" which is "Playtown Orange" in english.

The park is build in an old potato flour factory. The make-over happened in 1984-1985 and the place still breathes the same 80's style in fact it hasn't changed a bit since then.

Don't know if that is a good thing or not but at least there is free parking and the admission for an adult is only € 10,--.

I could stick with my sister who stayed on resort with her husband and four kids. So I had a free hotel and free admission. :)

I would call the place dangerous in a way. There were hardly any ride operators and all of the rides are packed together so many of the rides aren't fenced off and you could easily lose your kids out of sight. But then again the atmosphere was very relaxed and laid back. Anyway there is a credit... well for me it's a credit.. it's powered you know.

Maybe this tripreport will bring back memories to some of the Dutch and/or Belgian readers.

Enough of the blah blah on to the pics. (Part 1)

What an INSANE place!

In the farmer ride, are those real chickens under the barn centerpiece?

Except that those bumpercars didn't stop so when your kid want to exit the ride it had to run for dear life

That is just awesome, something you would NEVER find in the US.

I don't think that were real chicken. Otherwise those chicken must be 24 years old since no one would take care of them.

The couple in the next video were the only one who did ride the Flying cars that day.

That has to be without a doubt the most awesome ride I have ever seen at a "ghetto" style family park!

Good job I am going to Holland in October, will have to remember this place!

^^^That ride actually looks like a blast. Very simple concept with (most likely) amazing results. I'd love to ride a ride like that.

Nice trip report of a totally unique place.

Wow, it kind of looks like a ghetto version of Knuckleheads in the Dells. Both are built in old unique structures (Knuckleheads is in the old greyhound track), and both offer restaurants, rides, and a lack of ride operators. That said, if given the chance, I would visit that place as it looks like a cool little place, and that looping car ride looks like a lot of fun.
