Seen at Playland, this afternoon.

The Flume I understand at times, but... but Choppers is a child's simple "circle ride."

Well, I guess they tend to "go down" once in a while, too. (o;

Here's the rest of the photos, taken today. When I first saw the sign outside the gate, I couldn't

remember for the life of me, what CHOPPERS was. It's one of at least 8 what I call children's "circle rides",

either on "land or on the water". This one was the motorcycle variety and not the helicopter. I was going

to ask Customer Services up at the front of the park about it. But, true to my nature... I forgot about it.

But then I checked the park map at home, and found the little devils! And then realized that even circle

rides have their "down times" too.

And then I saw, all the GInormous OVERSIZED Lawn Furniture DISAPPEARED!...... For about FIVE MINUTES!

Here's the pix....

OMG - Giant Chairs ALERT! And when I asked about it, even the ride ops on

the West Coast Wheel had no idea they were moved! Sneaky thieves... but....

Tonight's my night to attend! And of course, Mom Nature finally decided to "sprinkle" here and there, throughout

the day. More rain is "expected" after around 8 at the park tonight. I have my poncho and a cap to wear

under the hood. A baggie for my Ice Balls prize tix, should I play (of course I'll play!). My list of cocktails to try

(see photo 3), and my camera to capture it all. Any themed foods to try for the night, I shall do my best to do so.

And to post it all, after I finally sober up (ha), probably tomorrow.

P.S. Has this been done in any other parks? An all-adult night with alcohol served,

and no one under legal drinking age, allowed? Thought I might ask, since it seems

rare in most parks. Or is in the park anyway, like BBQ & Brews etc.

PLaylandNights-B.jpg.9d6a64921c2819bf27b90d2d11c800b3.jpg

The Nights' Map. With little beer icons for beer stands (each 'corner' of the park). One for the Hard Lemonade stand (9 o'clock ~ above AXEWOOD),

and the single pink Cocktail Glass (7-8 o'clock, sort of) is where all the fancy themed drinks will be served. And you can travel

through the entire park with your beer or cocktail. Cool!

PlaylandNights-A.jpg.fcfa5a404bf3f3745e9f213f38ae683d.jpg

The Event. I must remember to catch whatever that "Axe Throwing" thing is.

Maybe even (dare I say?) throw one? Stay tuned. (o;

Craft beer and night time rides on Coaster. Wish I could be there! In a related note, Coaster was left off the ballot in this years Golden Ticket Awards. Terrible, I know. I had to leave my third fav woodie selection empty and wrote in the vote.

^ I'm curious what the CRAFT BEERs are, myself. The cocktails read much too sweet for my tastes.

But then again, nothing ventured.... I will do my best to take a taste try at (most) everything offered.

In a phrase.... OMG WHATTA MOB SCENE! Last night at one of Playland's Nights, it occurred to me very early on, that one would be foolish to try and ride a lot of rides. The event was from 7-midnight, but after 9pm, I could see it would take a good 40minutes-one hour to get through just one queue for any of "the big rides." But even rides like the Carousel and the Tea Cups (of all things!) were having huge lines, and all in all, I only got two rides last night. The Wave Swinger and the Carousel. Which was fine with me. And makes me think, maybe next year, the admission price will be raised, a FastPass ticket will be available, etc.

The drinking part was actually more fun to me. It allowed me to take my "glass" and walk around the park, people watching, and just enjoying the energy level there. And I ate. Twice. The Cone Shop was open (for a change - never in the day time), so I had a Falafel Cone which was tasty, with a nice amount of cole slaw in it. The chipolte sauce was good, too. I ended my visit with (what they called) Bacontine Fries with bacon and green onions ans sour cream on top. Also tasty and just enough to keep me happy till I got home.

The drinks. I had three different cocktails, and two Margaritas from the Hard Lemonade stand, which proved to be muuuch stronger than the cocktails....combined! (o: I tried the Candy Floss Martini first. It was nice. No real taste of any cotton candy I found, but that was okay. It was my 2nd fave of the three I had. The second one I had (and the blandest IMhO) was the Candy Appletini. Nice candy apple crush around the edge of the glass. But that to me, was the best thing about this drink. Meh. The third one I really REALLY liked. Called Snow Cone Vodka, it was mostly all vodka with a blueberry syrup in it, as well as snow cone ice floating on top. It wasn't overly sweet, which was nice, too.

I stayed till after 10pm, but by then the crowds were huge in the queues and the walkways... that was enough for me. I did enjoy the evening, but not because of the rides. The atmosphere, everybody behaving them self, and the drinks and food were part of it's success to me. I would do it again. But now that I know what I'm in for.... I'm definitely not counting on a lot of rides ridden again.

IMG_4548.JPG.f4f85718073f15fd4aab65cef944e4e8.JPG

Many many people outside the entry gate.

IMG_4549.JPG.f8e8d8f71519754e99bd8a98b87a4bfe.JPG

I am now in one of the 2 main lines to enter the park. The other was on the opposite side of the plaza.

IMG_4551.JPG.cc113f5aa6468a12b2b4e49b1bba076f.JPG

Also noted. And as far as "no smoking" goes, people were sneaking cigarette puffs all over the park. )o:

Noted.

IMG_4554.JPG.067ed5e39ab73fa9f99dabdbd672b3a8.JPG

omg it's already huge lines for The Beast. It got much longer later on...

IMG_4555.JPG.8e3c617733ad50c73a9e2102162d7ed0.JPG

Axe throwing. A lot of women were trying it, too.

IMG_4556.JPG.230bb3f57d3a6f2c669e9d8ed0a9f399.JPG

The Martini Bar at the back of the park. There was one at the front, mobbed with people not knowing

of this one available. Then later on, it was mobbed, too.

IMG_4557.JPG.2a4bd6109e237cf7ec524bee461858e4.JPG

My first of the evening: Candyfloss. The cranberry juice in it was nice. But that was about it.

My first Margarita and the Falafel Cone. Both excellent.

IMG_4567.JPG.0908eaba6034203cd81128fce6c3b269.JPG

All the rides open were all full with people. It was amazing to actually see these rides

in operation, with full ride vehicles too. The PNE doesn't even have that happen, much.

Music Express queue was wrapped around it, and then later the queue extended

to where I was taking this photo!

IMG_4572.JPG.4a922932d7c1deb07da49db0725e4552.JPG

Second cocktail: Candy Appletini. The candy crush on the rim was nice. And that was about it. for me.

The Beast's queue gets....well, beastly.

From the rarely open (in the day) Fresh Cut Fries...

IMG_4598.JPG.4e1dcfe8eee99b5dd95a10d2004bece9.JPG

I picked the Bacontine Fries, which had just enough "stuff" on it.

IMG_4599.JPG.17f8f05e0d0fd6f39d7d3cc9951dbbf6.JPG

Yep, just enough, and not too soggy, when I got to the bottom.

IMG_4600.JPG.fda8c1506e5736f7a29ddbbb936edf47.JPG

The crowds for Coaster now took up the entire walkway to it, from side to side. Sheesh!

  • 2 weeks later...

Although we celebrate our Pride Day and weekend at the beginning of August, we also share the dates with

Montreal... and Amsterdam! Besides this, Playland was also nice enough to put a Rainbow Flag up in the

entry plaza of the park. And as of today, though the weekend has passed, the flag is still flying.

P.S. Do any other parks, big or small, do this, like Playland does every year? Just curious of me.

^ Great! Unfortunately, and I was going to add this, but for some reason or other,

the Gay Day at Playland, which used to be mid-July, has seen dropped these past few

summers. I really wish they would start it up again. It was a lot of fun,

for the size of our park, and the staff certainly had a great time with everybody,

especially when they ran a Coaster train full of drag queens!

Awesome sight AND SOUNDs, lol!

Louisville has a big pride celebration. We were in town that day for a concert, but we got to see some of the festivities before it began. Homophobia may be rampant in Kentucky in general, but Louisville, its largest city, is slightly left of centre, which counts as progressive by Kentucky standards.

It's PNE OPENING DAY!!!

I spent this afternoon, going all around the PNE fairgrounds. I didn't buy anything, eat anything, see any show, or ride any ride.

This was just to check the entire place out, find where certain things were (that I was interested in), get my $2 Pinwheel Deals

coupon book and just flow with the crowds.

And just for Opening Day, they had a "deal" where for Canada's 150th Birthday this year, those wearing either red t-shirts and/or Canada

shirts, would get in for $1.50! 11am Opening to 1pm ONLY. They could have just done this deal all day, and it would still be as crowded

as it was. Oh well, I have the whole 2 weeks+ Fair Pass, so I don't have to deal with "deals" or coming in any earlier than 1pm, just to avoid the

probable lines here at Opening Time.

Here's the first part of what I took photos of...

Found out these are all over the fairgrounds, and they've relaxed the rule about where you can drink

or not, etc. Very cool idea. And they still have restricted No Minors areas too, to get away, etc.

PNE Opening Day. cont...

Giant dinosaurs were replaced with Giant BUGS this year. An Interesting change.

Bacon Candy Floss did not return. But CHOCOLATE FLOSS is here, instead.

The Ribs Fest is down to three contenders, and our fave returns!

Lots to see, do, ride, eat, drink, and enjoy this year's Fair.

From the "Things I Take to/Get at The PNE To Use..." Dept.

The daily schedule and map for the Fairgrounds. My printed out "Season pass" which I must keep with me for every day I go. They used to have a plastic card like the Playland Pass, but I apparently got one of the last ones put out, two years ago. Now you have the sheet of paper and show the bar code to the ticket takers.

Also, the little Pinwheel Deals booklet goes for $2, and isn't a freebie if you buys tickets ahead, online. Oh well. It's still a good deal, full of coupons for food, merch, games and even a 2-for-1 coupon for the Haunted Mansion walk through! Cool! David and I will be doing that, heh.

The Sanctuary, the Hockey Exhibit, Pork Belly....and Groot?

Today, I went to The Fair with only a few intentions. To visit the Hockey Legends Exhibit, to try my very first pork belly,

along with "Amsterdam Fries" (at least twice cooked, I was told), and to win something that caught my eye Opening Day,

at the Ice Ball-Games Arcade. And.... I got 'him'!

I first took a stroll through what's called The Sanctuary, which is a green space within the fairgrounds, and a really nice

cool spot to just walk through and relax, with all the noises of The Fair beyond the trees. Very lush and very soothing.

^ Thanks David! What's really making it easier for me to enjoy The Fair, is to visit it several times

(The two week+ pass is paid for in three visits. Just like a theme park multi-day pass!), and just

focus on one or two attractions or events, use the Pinwheel Deals coupons for food and drink

(and/or use one of my $1 refill jugs), and then leave when it gets too hot or tiring. Easy!

I truly feel sorry for those groups/families (big ones and small ones) that have to do The Fair

for the entire day, in the heat and humidity, and look just wrecked by the time I'm leaving the place.

But - here's what David and I have (so far) planned for tomorrow's visit. (He can only take the place once, LOL!)...

PNE Marketplace, Toytopia, and (so far)... a corn dog!...

David and I visited the Fair yesterday, early evening. We decided we really didn't need the entire day to see what we wanted to see on that visit. More what HE wanted to see, which was fine by me. We started at Marketplace (and omg we bought something!), then a corn dog break, followed by touring through the Toytopia Exhibit. And buying more stuff, of course!

Oops. Forgot to add to last post. After we left Toytopia, we headed down towards Celebration Plaza ("home" of ribs, booze, and a ZZ Top concert, nearby!) by way of the Big Bugs exhibit. But - this is the only shot I took. Enjoy. Celebration Plaza stuff (and more) coming soon!

Continuing along, on the same day (Thurs)....

When we planned going to the fair at a later time, we really had no idea what we were in for, when it came to visiting Celebration Plaza

and getting our BBQ fix, seeing Z Z Top somehow, though we didn't buy reserved seats or get there at noon to get wristbands for free space.

So we turned the corner from the Big Bugs Exhibit, past the Pineapple Whip stand...and IT WAS CRAZY PACKED! Thankfully the lines for the

3 BBQ spots were okay. But it was just jammed in the main Beer garden tent, while Dueling Pianos was performing their first set of the

evening.

While we ate our BBQ, we talked about, "what should we do next?" People were already heading into the Concert Arena and the show was

to start in a 1/2 hour or so. So after we ate, we headed up through Playland, I got another several plays at Ice Ball, picked up a $1 refill

in the jug (Lemon Iced Tea), and slowly made our way back to the Concert area.

Also totally jammed, even at the top of the "bowl" area. So we decided, after hearing their opening numbers, we needed to find a better

place to relax etc. What we found out, was the PNE was filming it live, and broadcasting it to a big screen up in the Festival Plaza!

Which also had a barely busy bar there, and lots of chairs to move around, and closer to the viewing area. So we watched the rest of

the concert there, got ourselves Our Very First Cannolis (!) for dessert, and just enjoyed the evening's show more casually, than if we'd

been jammed together with the thousands actually watching it.

But now we know - forget buying tickets to the concerts, or lining up some hot ungawdly hour for wristbands. This worked for us and we'd

definitely do it again next year, depending on who's performing.

And the evening ended with The PNE doing a new "sky show" with drones and lights synchronized to music. First time they've tried this,

and although a bit awkward in spots, it was really cool to watch. I hope they bring it back to next year's Fair.

Dessert! Our very first cannolis, too!

We chose a La Nonna and a Pistachio.

What's left of Pistachio. And the La Nonna was awesome, too! But we were surprised how crunchy a cannoli shell is.
