Nrthwnd
"Seven Shots on Saturday" http://www.pne.ca Shots 1-5 are from the West Coast Wheel. Side Wheel. Purple Train on Coaster, today. WATCH & Side WHEE! The Mountains Shot Back on the ground - hmm, something's different here. Ah yes! I'll be there this coming Friday!
Nrthwnd
Seen at Playland, this afternoon. The Flume I understand at times, but... but Choppers is a child's simple "circle ride." Well, I guess they tend to "go down" once in a while, too. (o;
Nrthwnd
Here's the rest of the photos, taken today. When I first saw the sign outside the gate, I couldn't remember for the life of me, what CHOPPERS was. It's one of at least 8 what I call children's "circle rides", either on "land or on the water". This one was the motorcycle variety and not the helicopter. I was going to ask Customer Services up at the front of the park about it. But, true to my nature... I forgot about it. But then I checked the park map at home, and found the little devils! And then realized that even circle rides have their "down times" too. And then I saw, all the GInormous OVERSIZED Lawn Furniture DISAPPEARED!...... For about FIVE MINUTES! Here's the pix.... "Up - Up and away, in my beautiful, my beautiful..." My prize tickets take for the afternoon, from playing Ice Ball. OMG - Giant Chairs ALERT! And when I asked about it, even the ride ops on the West Coast Wheel had no idea they were moved! Sneaky thieves... but.... ...Heading up to my usual Capsule Machine behind Hellevator, and what do I see...? Geez these look like a bugger to move! Base of Hellevator. Interesting re-location. To the left there, was the Final Gift Shop Playland had. And as I leave the park... I see that Beast's BUTT LIGHTS are ON! And finally, after many many repeat capsules, I GOT A NEW GLOBSTER! With undies on, too! (o: (o: (o:
Nrthwnd
Tonight's my night to attend! And of course, Mom Nature finally decided to "sprinkle" here and there, throughout the day. More rain is "expected" after around 8 at the park tonight. I have my poncho and a cap to wear under the hood. A baggie for my Ice Balls prize tix, should I play (of course I'll play!). My list of cocktails to try (see photo 3), and my camera to capture it all. Any themed foods to try for the night, I shall do my best to do so. And to post it all, after I finally sober up (ha), probably tomorrow. P.S. Has this been done in any other parks? An all-adult night with alcohol served, and no one under legal drinking age, allowed? Thought I might ask, since it seems rare in most parks. Or is in the park anyway, like BBQ & Brews etc. The Nights' Map. With little beer icons for beer stands (each 'corner' of the park). One for the Hard Lemonade stand (9 o'clock ~ above AXEWOOD), and the single pink Cocktail Glass (7-8 o'clock, sort of) is where all the fancy themed drinks will be served. And you can travel through the entire park with your beer or cocktail. Cool! The Event. I must remember to catch whatever that "Axe Throwing" thing is. Maybe even (dare I say?) throw one? Stay tuned. (o; My To-Drink List. And beer and/or wine, if I so choose. (o;
ArgoZ
Craft beer and night time rides on Coaster. Wish I could be there! In a related note, Coaster was left off the ballot in this years Golden Ticket Awards. Terrible, I know. I had to leave my third fav woodie selection empty and wrote in the vote. Nrthwnd
^ I'm curious what the CRAFT BEERs are, myself. The cocktails read much too sweet for my tastes. But then again, nothing ventured.... I will do my best to take a taste try at (most) everything offered.
Nrthwnd
In a phrase.... OMG WHATTA MOB SCENE! Last night at one of Playland's Nights, it occurred to me very early on, that one would be foolish to try and ride a lot of rides. The event was from 7-midnight, but after 9pm, I could see it would take a good 40minutes-one hour to get through just one queue for any of "the big rides." But even rides like the Carousel and the Tea Cups (of all things!) were having huge lines, and all in all, I only got two rides last night. The Wave Swinger and the Carousel. Which was fine with me. And makes me think, maybe next year, the admission price will be raised, a FastPass ticket will be available, etc. The drinking part was actually more fun to me. It allowed me to take my "glass" and walk around the park, people watching, and just enjoying the energy level there. And I ate. Twice. The Cone Shop was open (for a change - never in the day time), so I had a Falafel Cone which was tasty, with a nice amount of cole slaw in it. The chipolte sauce was good, too. I ended my visit with (what they called) Bacontine Fries with bacon and green onions ans sour cream on top. Also tasty and just enough to keep me happy till I got home. The drinks. I had three different cocktails, and two Margaritas from the Hard Lemonade stand, which proved to be muuuch stronger than the cocktails....combined! (o: I tried the Candy Floss Martini first. It was nice. No real taste of any cotton candy I found, but that was okay. It was my 2nd fave of the three I had. The second one I had (and the blandest IMhO) was the Candy Appletini. Nice candy apple crush around the edge of the glass. But that to me, was the best thing about this drink. Meh. The third one I really REALLY liked. Called Snow Cone Vodka, it was mostly all vodka with a blueberry syrup in it, as well as snow cone ice floating on top. It wasn't overly sweet, which was nice, too. I stayed till after 10pm, but by then the crowds were huge in the queues and the walkways... that was enough for me. I did enjoy the evening, but not because of the rides. The atmosphere, everybody behaving them self, and the drinks and food were part of it's success to me. I would do it again. But now that I know what I'm in for.... I'm definitely not counting on a lot of rides ridden again. Many many people outside the entry gate. I am now in one of the 2 main lines to enter the park. The other was on the opposite side of the plaza. Also noted. And as far as "no smoking" goes, people were sneaking cigarette puffs all over the park. )o: Noted. omg it's already huge lines for The Beast. It got much longer later on... Axe throwing. A lot of women were trying it, too. The Martini Bar at the back of the park. There was one at the front, mobbed with people not knowing of this one available. Then later on, it was mobbed, too. My first of the evening: Candyfloss. The cranberry juice in it was nice. But that was about it. What it looked like at 8pm, soon to be overcrowded by 9. Butt Lights. Wheee! My first Margarita and the Falafel Cone. Both excellent. All the rides open were all full with people. It was amazing to actually see these rides in operation, with full ride vehicles too. The PNE doesn't even have that happen, much. Music Express queue was wrapped around it, and then later the queue extended to where I was taking this photo! Second cocktail: Candy Appletini. The candy crush on the rim was nice. And that was about it. for me. Even on Carousels people take selfies. I skipped Bug Whirled because it's queue was huge! Much longer line now for Music Express. My third and favourite: Snow Cone Vodka. With a "dash of snow". (o; Looking out from the Martini Bar tent. Even the bumper cars had doubled lines for it. Lots of laughing coming from here. The Beast's queue gets....well, beastly. From the rarely open (in the day) Fresh Cut Fries... I picked the Bacontine Fries, which had just enough "stuff" on it. Yep, just enough, and not too soggy, when I got to the bottom. The crowds for Coaster now took up the entire walkway to it, from side to side. Sheesh! Bye Bye Playland - it was a Night to Remember! Nrthwnd
The PNE just announced several new foods and eats, available at this year's fair. I picked out six of them, I found the most interesting... New Menu Items Coming to the Fair at the PNE! Elissa would love this one ~ Caprese Salad Stack! Chili Lime Popcorn Shrimp Perogies BBQ Cricket Burger ~ YUM! Crispy Chicken Feet ~ yum. Halibut Fish Tacos Footlong Mac 'n Cheese Hotdog And, a few photos taken at Playland, yesterday. Yellow train was taking it easy, while Purple train did it's shift. Longest line in the park, even more than Coaster! AtmosFEAR shot. Nrthwnd
A few new photos, from yesterday's visit. Crowds as big as always, on the weekends. And at the end.... "Move over Poutine… Just kidding, you will always be our favorite but give these a try!".... ~ PNE Blog. www.pne.ca Purple train today. This corner, is the possible location of a New Dark Ride, if the Future Plans of Playland continue on. I still enjoy being able to see out the back of this. The back "wall" was removed only a couple of years ago. Falling, falling.... Scrambler "in action." (o; And besides the Gourmet BBQ Cricket Burger available at the PNE...there's this "Special Poutine." Yum? Seeing the cricket poutine, made me have a flashback, to when Holger downed a deep fried tarantula, on the TPR 2012 China Tour. Yum, indeed! Nrthwnd
Although we celebrate our Pride Day and weekend at the beginning of August, we also share the dates with Montreal... and Amsterdam! Besides this, Playland was also nice enough to put a Rainbow Flag up in the entry plaza of the park. And as of today, though the weekend has passed, the flag is still flying. P.S. Do any other parks, big or small, do this, like Playland does every year? Just curious of me. Happy Pride World!

Nrthwnd
^ Great! Unfortunately, and I was going to add this, but for some reason or other, the Gay Day at Playland, which used to be mid-July, has seen dropped these past few summers. I really wish they would start it up again. It was a lot of fun, for the size of our park, and the staff certainly had a great time with everybody, especially when they ran a Coaster train full of drag queens! Awesome sight AND SOUNDs, lol! Gay Day 2011 ~ The year AtmosFEAR (star flyer) opened, and there were pink chandeliers in Playland's trees! ytterbiumanalyst
Louisville has a big pride celebration. We were in town that day for a concert, but we got to see some of the festivities before it began. Homophobia may be rampant in Kentucky in general, but Louisville, its largest city, is slightly left of centre, which counts as progressive by Kentucky standards. Nrthwnd
"Fair Food to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth!" The Fair at the PNE is excited to present the Fair Food that will satisfy the sweet tooth in your family! From icy drinks that will cool you down on a hot summer day, to sugary treats to give you an extra pep in your step! Here are some of the great Fair treats coming this year! PRAGUE’S CONES are unique ice cream treats that put a delicious spin on traditional Chimney Cakes. Rolled by hand and baked fresh, Prague’s Cones are coated with cinnamon and sugar and filled with premium soft-serve ice cream. YUM! This is taking ice cream to a whole new level! It’s everyone’s favorite summer treat… ice cream in a waffle cone, but with a new fun twist. Not only is the ice cream rolled and mixed with your favourite toppings like Oreo, Skor, Strawberries, and many more… it’s also in a waffle cone shaped as a taco shell, to make the delicious and new WAFFLE TACO! Just when you thought there was something we couldn’t deep fry… We did this. DEEP FRIED JELLO! LAVA WHIP ~ Pineapple Dole Whip with pina colada and strawberry puree, sprinkled with coconut macaroon crumbs. (This, with a good shot of Tequila would would be a nice Fair Treat for myself.) Nrthwnd
Went to Playland yesterday, to check out what I could see from the West Coast Wheel, in the PNE preparations (it opens this Saturday!) going on around the fair grounds. http://www.pne.ca Red train on Coaster, today. Hmmm. Coaster Dogs is open today. Will check that out, later. In queue for the West Coast Wheel. Pirate gets MOONED by Baywatch! Downtown shot from the Wheel. Corkscrew still hanging in. Second haunt walk through, Dollkeepers Factory, ready to open on Saturday... ...As well as a second scrambler! Guess it comes with the rides package, for The Fair. I am hoping that BACON CANDY FLOSS will again be sold at this place. (o: One of my fave sections of the park. The RIB FEST will be to the right, UNROUTINE POUTINE (that brown rectangular bldg. there) in the middle... ...and the BEER GARDEN will again feature (Direct From SFMM!) Dueling Pianos! Stage and area set up, before chairs added, for the Summer Night Concerts at the Fair. I'm seeing Huey Lewis & The News, Aug.27! More games tents being set up. What's this? What's this? Interesting. Might be for fake "On Ride Photos" with a screen backdrop. We'll find out, soon enough. Back to Coaster Dogs for something. I chose this. It's menu. Looks good. Tastes fine, but the hot dog could have been more..."hot". And as I left the park....lines and lines of people to go in! I was shocked how crowded it was. Nrthwnd
It's PNE OPENING DAY!!! I spent this afternoon, going all around the PNE fairgrounds. I didn't buy anything, eat anything, see any show, or ride any ride. This was just to check the entire place out, find where certain things were (that I was interested in), get my $2 Pinwheel Deals coupon book and just flow with the crowds. And just for Opening Day, they had a "deal" where for Canada's 150th Birthday this year, those wearing either red t-shirts and/or Canada shirts, would get in for $1.50! 11am Opening to 1pm ONLY. They could have just done this deal all day, and it would still be as crowded as it was. Oh well, I have the whole 2 weeks+ Fair Pass, so I don't have to deal with "deals" or coming in any earlier than 1pm, just to avoid the probable lines here at Opening Time. Here's the first part of what I took photos of... I was expecting some WELCOME on the electronic board. Not to be. A map. Big Purple Star is where I am. For getting lots of things you don't really need, and never did. The annual line up of vintage police cars, etc. And "just in case..." "Into the woods, we go again..." Guess what's here? Yep. Hockey Nerd stuff! Yeah, they got these, too. Where crickets are killed and cooked for burgers and/or fries. Yum! Found out these are all over the fairgrounds, and they've relaxed the rule about where you can drink or not, etc. Very cool idea. And they still have restricted No Minors areas too, to get away, etc. Where a lot of kids' stuff happens. Note all those red shirts? The Beer fest. Same place as last year. And I am not sure whether to hit it at least once, or not. We shall see, eventually. I mean, there's alcohol all over the fair this year! Something to do with monkeys, I bet. (o; Good. The flying saucer is still picking up children, and carrying them off, somewhere far, far away. Future Food Spot I will be visiting, soon. It's amazing how so much can be put onto a single food stall, signs-wise. The PNE Prize Home. Doesn't impress me. Will take a tour later on, though. Where Angry Birds were last year, now it's toys, toys TOYS! And FREE, too!!! (o: Saw these both last year. Got two weeks to decide on re-visits, or not. The Agrodome ~ Where the RCMP Musical Ride performs (almost) daily. I definitely want to see them! (to be continued...)
Nrthwnd
PNE Opening Day. cont... Giant dinosaurs were replaced with Giant BUGS this year. An Interesting change. Bacon Candy Floss did not return. But CHOCOLATE FLOSS is here, instead. The Ribs Fest is down to three contenders, and our fave returns! Lots to see, do, ride, eat, drink, and enjoy this year's Fair. Entry Banner into Giant Bugs Land. Yes, definitely giant bugs. One bug gardens for a hobby. Big bugs guarding the park's Racetrack. A PINK praying mantis? Um....okaaay. WOO HOO! Our version of Dole Whip is back! Where ribs, booze, rides and pianos come together. No minors allowed, here. And now that one can take alcohol around the park, this is still a nice respite. And here! ~ Direct (sort of) from Magic Mountain! ~ The Pianos That Duel! ~ Can't wait to hear them perform again. Three to choose from. But our fave is still Misty Mountain. The other two....meh. Bacon gone. Chocolate in it's place. And Ride Side Bar is back, too. Great spot to relax and watch families go crazy in Playland, lol! Red Shirts 'R us. Smoking "Lounge" already busy for the day. The un-exciting Haunted House dark ride (only 20 sec. of eh), moved this year beside the Pink Tilt-A-Whirl. A woman getting her children away from the attraction that is NOT the Toyland Exhibit! She found out, she was at the wrong end of the Fair, lol! Poor kids, they REALLY wanted to check the Doll Factory out. All these stands actually look great, when lit up at night. Country stuff. Will check out the sights, sounds, and SMELLS of it, later on. Oooooo. Something coming to the PNE grounds in December! With a few beautiful examples of what we'll see, then. Want to see these lit up, hopefully. And so, passing the Festival Park Stage, busy with entertainment, I leave the PNE for that day.
Nrthwnd
From the "Things I Take to/Get at The PNE To Use..." Dept. The daily schedule and map for the Fairgrounds. My printed out "Season pass" which I must keep with me for every day I go. They used to have a plastic card like the Playland Pass, but I apparently got one of the last ones put out, two years ago. Now you have the sheet of paper and show the bar code to the ticket takers. Also, the little Pinwheel Deals booklet goes for $2, and isn't a freebie if you buys tickets ahead, online. Oh well. It's still a good deal, full of coupons for food, merch, games and even a 2-for-1 coupon for the Haunted Mansion walk through! Cool! David and I will be doing that, heh. My Pass for entry every day, into the PNE. The schedule-map you're given for every day's events, etc. The Schedule. A page of ads for stuff going on at this year's Fair. Map on the back. Where Playland sits, in all this. Examples of coupons in the booklet. And...a map on it's back! (o;
Nrthwnd
The Sanctuary, the Hockey Exhibit, Pork Belly....and Groot? Today, I went to The Fair with only a few intentions. To visit the Hockey Legends Exhibit, to try my very first pork belly, along with "Amsterdam Fries" (at least twice cooked, I was told), and to win something that caught my eye Opening Day, at the Ice Ball-Games Arcade. And.... I got 'him'! I first took a stroll through what's called The Sanctuary, which is a green space within the fairgrounds, and a really nice cool spot to just walk through and relax, with all the noises of The Fair beyond the trees. Very lush and very soothing. Entered the fair today, through the Playland entry gate. Heading into The Sanctuary. Map. You couldn't see The Fair anywhere from here. Only hear the noise. This was a nice spot for a shot. Part of the Momiji Japanese Gardens, outside the Garden Auditorium.... ...Where this was. You can never go wrong, with a Zamboni Overview of the exhibit. Bunches of stuff. Serious hardware. Individual players' displays. Gordie Howe. The Stanley Cup History. Wayne Gretzky. Fan art. Nrthwnd
Continuing on.... The Legends of Hockey Gift Shop! You want hockey stuff? We got hockey stuff! You want pricey photos? We got pricey photos! (o; Caps 'R' Us. And of course, every possible hockey team shirt, ever made. Out of the exhibit, and checking out some cool cars. Ooooooo purty. Mid-day Meal time! Pork Belly & Amsterdam Fries, along with some nice cool root beer. For my very first taste, it was pretty good! Last Fry Standing (or leaning here). And for dessert ~ a nice cup of hard cider. So after eating. I headed back to my usual games area.... Picked one of my two spots to play (#6 was out of order). Racked up a fairly decent score.. And got my Baby Groot! Great ending to an afternoon visit to The Fair.

Nrthwnd
^ Thanks David! What's really making it easier for me to enjoy The Fair, is to visit it several times (The two week+ pass is paid for in three visits. Just like a theme park multi-day pass!), and just focus on one or two attractions or events, use the Pinwheel Deals coupons for food and drink (and/or use one of my $1 refill jugs), and then leave when it gets too hot or tiring. Easy! I truly feel sorry for those groups/families (big ones and small ones) that have to do The Fair for the entire day, in the heat and humidity, and look just wrecked by the time I'm leaving the place. But - here's what David and I have (so far) planned for tomorrow's visit. (He can only take the place once, LOL!)... Right at the Main Gate, and AIR CONDITIONED in the place, too! Where we buy stuff. Stuff we really don't need. Looking forward to seeing this. And of course, buying some thing(s). (o; Our home(-away-from-The-PNE) of Ribs, Cider & Beer.... and .... Yes, this is the couple that just did a Six Flags Magic Mountain tour! And they're great, as this is their what? Fourth visit to The PNE? Great couple and fun music. THIS is what caught David's attention in the paper today. So all plans are around and up to.... 10:15pm? Stay tuned.
Nrthwnd
PNE Marketplace, Toytopia, and (so far)... a corn dog!... David and I visited the Fair yesterday, early evening. We decided we really didn't need the entire day to see what we wanted to see on that visit. More what HE wanted to see, which was fine by me. We started at Marketplace (and omg we bought something!), then a corn dog break, followed by touring through the Toytopia Exhibit. And buying more stuff, of course! (To be continued...) Where we headed to, with nice air conditioning in the building. (o: But first....the Paper Couture Exhibit! Amazing what you can do with just a paper bag, lol. In the Marketplace, David likes carvings. I liked this. And it lights up. But I didn't buy one. Bread Boards or Butt Paddles? Your choice! David talks about rocks with this stall's owner. I see a chair in back, so I headed for it. What I am sitting beside. I did not buy any of this. We DID buy two of these! One purple/silver and one red/dark blue. "Glitter and be gay." This is way beyond popsicle sticks! We check out the newest $$$$$ hot tubs. We already have one, but we're still curious what's new and pricey. (o; And we walk by this. We didn't need to "WIN A NEW HOUSE!". Or "...OR A NEW CAR!", either. Corn dog break! How to fake a "foot long" corn dog. Make actually 8" long, and make sure that 4" of the stick sticks out.... Ta Daaah! A Foot Long Corn Dog! Regardless, we enjoyed it. Here we go! What greets us in the exhibit. Lots of retro toys to see and enjoy, and even play with, too! HASBRO apparently had/has a real "monopoly" on board games. I had to say it that way, lol. Star Wars was there, although mostly in display cases. Museum like. Boring. Saw this, and it reminded me.... ...of this! At Cedar Point in their Park Museum Exhibit. (Taken June 5, 2017) Hey Chuck! Wassup? Lego 'R' Everywhere! Lots and lots of Legos to enjoy. Nobody touched this creation, which I thought was cool and perfect. Then, into the Gift Shop, bought a few things and we were out of there! Nrthwnd
Oops. Forgot to add to last post. After we left Toytopia, we headed down towards Celebration Plaza ("home" of ribs, booze, and a ZZ Top concert, nearby!) by way of the Big Bugs exhibit. But - this is the only shot I took. Enjoy. Celebration Plaza stuff (and more) coming soon! Pretty. Giant Monarch butterfly, humping a giant flower.
Nrthwnd
Continuing along, on the same day (Thurs).... When we planned going to the fair at a later time, we really had no idea what we were in for, when it came to visiting Celebration Plaza and getting our BBQ fix, seeing Z Z Top somehow, though we didn't buy reserved seats or get there at noon to get wristbands for free space. So we turned the corner from the Big Bugs Exhibit, past the Pineapple Whip stand...and IT WAS CRAZY PACKED! Thankfully the lines for the 3 BBQ spots were okay. But it was just jammed in the main Beer garden tent, while Dueling Pianos was performing their first set of the evening. While we ate our BBQ, we talked about, "what should we do next?" People were already heading into the Concert Arena and the show was to start in a 1/2 hour or so. So after we ate, we headed up through Playland, I got another several plays at Ice Ball, picked up a $1 refill in the jug (Lemon Iced Tea), and slowly made our way back to the Concert area. Also totally jammed, even at the top of the "bowl" area. So we decided, after hearing their opening numbers, we needed to find a better place to relax etc. What we found out, was the PNE was filming it live, and broadcasting it to a big screen up in the Festival Plaza! Which also had a barely busy bar there, and lots of chairs to move around, and closer to the viewing area. So we watched the rest of the concert there, got ourselves Our Very First Cannolis (!) for dessert, and just enjoyed the evening's show more casually, than if we'd been jammed together with the thousands actually watching it. But now we know - forget buying tickets to the concerts, or lining up some hot ungawdly hour for wristbands. This worked for us and we'd definitely do it again next year, depending on who's performing. And the evening ended with The PNE doing a new "sky show" with drones and lights synchronized to music. First time they've tried this, and although a bit awkward in spots, it was really cool to watch. I hope they bring it back to next year's Fair. Oooooo BBQ Fire! Looks yummy. This was the Misty Mountain spot. Our fave BBQ of the three, here. More FIRE! (o: A combo of ribs and brisket. Hea-ven! And a cider from a spot (thankfully) outside the beer garden. West Coast Wheel shot. Ride Side Bar still going strong. Sign in the daytime.... ...but I finally got to see these at night, with their lights on. Very cool. Beautiful details. We may go to this, in December! Dessert! Our very first cannolis, too! We chose a La Nonna and a Pistachio. What's left of Pistachio. And the La Nonna was awesome, too! But we were surprised how crunchy a cannoli shell is. Where we sat to see the onscreen concert of ..... Z Z Top! Their beard-less drummer. Named Frank Beard! Billy and Dusty. It was a great concert, and they ended it with "Tush." A reminder.... ....of this. It "was" white mountain tops, green mountains, and blue water line there. I missed that shot. )o: G'night!
