California Great America (CGA) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I was only using GS as an example because it's the most notable delay. Yes, it may have been because of Prudential but it's still a delay none the less. Mass Effect had a delay only because this was tech that the park hasn't seen before and wanted to make sure that everything would work on day 1 when it opened.

Anyways, anybody going on opening day that would want to hangout?

I understood and even forgave the delays to Gold Striker since this was the first time they had built a coaster in years plus all the stuff they had to put up with the neighboring buildings (and I can also forgive ME's delay because of the new technology). And yes, a delay by only a week isn't that bad especially for something like Patriot, I'm just saying that I've been seeing a pattern with these delayed openings.

I was planning to go on opening day to meet up with some Facebook fans, however my family might have other plans and I have no means of transportation to get there at the moment. So it's unclear right now.

Honestly, this was a lot earlier than I was expecting.

Same exact thoughts. Has there ever been a ride that opened on the first day of the season? Going off memory, most new attractions open Spring Break- Memorial Day in California. Not sure exactly where the disappointment is coming from but since it's just a rebranding of a coaster I understand thinking they should have had it ready for opening day. It actually makes me more excited to go to the park before Summer as I haven't been able to ride Mass Effect yet due to it being closed during both Halloween & Christmas (my only 2 visits of 2016).

I'm loving that shirt I might have to get one myself despite it being technically correct

Florida rides seem like they open later than California rides.

For CA rides, Goliath (SFMM) opened in February 2000 (kind of odd unless they wanted to beat MF).

Including Patriot, it looks like 2017 will be a rare year in which three new major American coasters (Patriot, Invadr, Mystic Timbers) will be open before Easter (then again, Easter is late this year)

The radio advertisements for Patriot are so over the top "Patriot couldn't be farther from a daydream!" "Make sure you check out CGA'S BRAND NEW ROLLER COASTER where you drop a total of 9 STORIES! YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT!"

Just the other day I heard two different ads on the radio back to back. First one was just the station promoting it and then it was the real one after. It was almost too much, I'm looking forward to both the passholder preview and doing the media day as well for patriot. Tomorrow is going to be a fun filled day.

So here's the moment that you've all been waiting for, the Patriot media day report. So starts out by them giving us our lanyards as well as a patriot bag with a mystery box in it. (you'll find out whats in it later) Anyways, they let us into the park and were then greeted by an enthusiastic snoopy decked out in an american flag vest. As we're walking to the stage they're in the middle of testing the ride getting it ready for us and the 28 servicemen who joined us today as well. (National Guard, Army, Marines, and Coast Guard) One of them sings the national anthem before some announcements from Roger, Raul, and the Mayor of Santa Clara. After that, they got escorted up to the station to be the first riders after the ribbon cutting. After we got our first ride in, which completely blew me away, trust me the floorless trains make a HUGE difference. (No more ball busting guys) You can actually sit and enjoy this ride now, CGA knocked this one out of the park, it'll be a huge hit with everybody tomorrow. Now, onto the food, They had all the new stuff from the smokehouse for us to try. They had the tri-tip, pulled pork, and spicy chicken sandwiches. They also had some sides like coleslaw and bbq beans. Now enough of me rambling, lets get onto the pictures and let them do some talking.

Thanks for the report!

Patriot sure looks great in the blue and I'm glad the uncomfortable parts were solved by the floorless trains. Rougarou was a really enjoyable coaster when I rode it and that's something most people didn't say about Mantis.

Hey guys, I was not sure where to ask this but does a Cedar Fair platinum dining pass work at Gilroy Gardens? I know the pass works for entry as per the website, but I could not find any information about the dining pass. Thanks
