The tower will soar over the theme park’s main entrance and will be built entirely of LEGO bricks. Park guests will be able to participate in this record-breaking event by constructing their own piece of the tower beginning Thursday, February 17 when the Park opens at 10 a.m. Park officials estimate the tower will take four days, 40 hours, nearly 50,000 guests and more than 500,000 LEGO bricks to complete! The construction of the tower begins everyday during Presidents Day weekend when the Park opens at 10 a.m. and ends when the Park closes at 5 p.m. Witness the closing ceremony on Presidents Day, February 21 at 10:30 a.m. when the final bricks are positioned and the tower is measured and certified by an official from Guinness World Records. The theme park said it will spend the bulk of its $5.8 million capital improvement budget this year on Knights' Tournament, a ride that tosses a pair of individuals up, down, sideways and upside down from harnessed seats at the end of a 15-foot robotic arm Legoland is hoping the ride will attract visitors to the Carlsbad park who haven't been there recently. It said that no American theme parks have similar rides. Attendance at the park increased in 2004 after three years of downward movement. After peaking at 1.47 million in 2000 – the park's second year – attendance had fallen to 1.3 million in 2003. While the privately held Legoland doesn't release financial results, it did say that revenue last year was up 11 percent and operating profit was up 40 percent from the previous year.
