Lake Compounce Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Finally made it to the park today and Boulder Dash is indeed awesome again. Jerry did say they ran into a problem with Wildcat's lift hill so they had to rebuild it. He hopes to have it up by the end of June. Assuming testing goes well. Today was a short visit due to rain and the park closing early but the park looked great.

The past 2 years those flyers have been snappable. I think the park may be running the ride a little faster now since it hasn't been a one time thing. Those flyers used to be the worst ones anywhere but now they beat any of the modern installations.

I can honestly say that Dorney Park has the worst set of Flyers I've ever ridden.

This is very exciting to me. It's cool to see Wildcat getting some love (I did not enjoy it when I rode it,) and I'm thrilled that Boulderdash is getting its rough spot repaired. I have to admit, I was a wee bit heartbroken hearing people complain that it was soooo rough now and that they didn't like it. It will always remain one of the most insane night ride and ERT experiences of my life, so I hate to hear people knock on it.

That night was AMAZING!

  • 2 weeks later...

Wondering if any locals or regulars know of any deep discounts or coupons for a single day visit to this park? Would be a weekend if that makes a difference. Also any word on Wildcat?

Thanks in advance.

This is the only news the park has released about Wildcat. No clue if this will actually happen or not since it was supposed to open Memorial Day weekend and I'm not even sure if they've tested the ride yet.

Was there Satutday. Looks like they are finished with the wood, just laying steel on the track. Not many working on it, though it was a Saturday. They did have a come-a-long strung up from the track to a bent, trying to straighten it??, but the cross ties for wood not in place yet on that. It could be possible it would be test ran by months end.

If there's any chance you'd visit twice, I highly recommend the getting a season pass. I got one for $55ish.

As of Sunday:

Was really hoping it would have been open, but oh well. Gives us more of an excuse to go back in the future. That, and we didn't have enough time to do the sky ride or log flume.

Made our annual trip out to the Lake Compounce today and it was a perfect day to take in the park. Crowds were light and the weather was perfect. I'm a huge fan of Lake Compounce so combined with the weather and light crowds the trip was a huge success. Boulder Dash is still batsh*t crazy and Phobia was delivering forceful rides as usual. On top of getting multiple rides on those two we took a spin on the flume, rapids, Downtime, Ghost Hunt, Zoomerang (unfortunately) and the chairlift. After years of going to the park I finally took a spin on Downtime and I have to say it is an awesome S&S Tower with a great drop and theming that actually works. Also, the revamped Ghost Hunt was very fun! Better than when I previously rode in which it was very pathetic. We kept the tradition of eating at Pinks. I had my usual go too of a Chili Cheese Dog with Onion Rings. I tried the new Lake Compounce beer by Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. and it was a pretty tasty blonde ale. The Chairlift is a must ride, its a great way to relax and take in the natural beauty of the area. The question I have though is that a huge area of land has been cleared behind the water park. I'm guessing there will be a water park expansion but it is a massive amount of land for just that. Does anyone know anything else? Wildcat was closed but crews were out there with a cherry picker on the lift hill. I'm not sure if it will be open in time for the 4th of July at this rate. Anyway..On to the photos!

The front row was closed, anyone have any idea why?

Downtime, the ringing clock at the top before you drop is quite un-nerving.

It's cool how the hands on the giant clock actually move.

If you visit Lake Compounce I recommend you take the time out to ride the Chairlift, awesome views.

Crews working on Wildcat. It looks like it should be good once it opens.

I was there today too, this is the second time I have seen the front blocked off on the green train this season. I think usually it's just a seatbelt issue but there were lots of wasted front row rides today.

The plan for the land is water park expansion in the future. The original plan was to fill up all the land in a year or two, but now it seems like they will add to it a little at a time. I'm guessing there will be some sort of addition next year.

The project manager for the Wildcat work said that Wildcat's opening is now days away, seems like they still have a lot to do. A week ago I heard they were shooting for this weekend but I don't think they will make it but you never know.

It seems Wildcat's opening keeps getting pushed back further and further, but I definitely have a return visit planned when it reopens. I hope GCI can work their magic with this coaster like they did with GhostRider. I'm not expecting a top flight ride. I just want something that can be ridden a few times in a visit without leaving me in pain.

That's a shame the front seat of Boulder Dash was closed off as that's easily the best seat on that ride.

It's really impressive in person. It seems insane to me that it's all blocked off for the water park since that would make the water park significantly larger than the dry park but because of it's location that's definitely what it looks like.

I was thinking the same thing. Thats a massive amount of land to invest in just the water park. The area in the back would be great for a coaster, especially right next to the road where drivers can see it up close. If they expanded the dry park out there I wonder if they could build a bridge across the lake where the catering area is.

Wildcat was actually retracked by M&V not GCI. GCI just provided the new trains.

^ Thanks for the clarification.

Aside from the rides/slides they could add in that area, I really want them to complete the loop so the River Rapids area is no longer a dead end.

It always amazes me how far out of the way the rapids are from the rest of the park.

Yes, you have to walk past the water park and chairlift along the lake. It's tucked back there.
