Spam Threads - Respond to them and be BANNED!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Yes there has been a problem with spam lately. It's happening not just here but all over the place.

Most of the time one of us admins or mods catch it within minutes and it's gone.

But what annoys me MORE than the spam is all the people who continue to RESPOND to those posts!!!!

WHY?!?! What is the reason for this? If you respond to a spam thread then all you are doing is bumping it up to the top and pushing some really good threads our members have created to the bottom. We want to promote our users and their trip reports, NOT SPAM!

So therefore I am instituting a new rule....

"If you respond to a spam thread you automatically will receive a 1 week ban from TPR Forums."

Don't be part of the problem, instead, please help us out. That's not too much to ask.

^ Then that wouldn't be spam, not if the user is ACTIVE, and hasn't simply registered just to post the link.

If you're asking what happens if an active used posts a real spam link, like porn, or pyramid schemes or something... Who would do that?!

I dont mean to sound stupid. But what if its a link to a personal website, or a random link, that is posted by an active user?

If you can't tell the difference between what is and isn't spam how do you know Theme Park Review isn't selling donkey porn?

So you are selling donkey porn?

I've been looking everywhere for that.

Yeah. Nothing like hot hairy ass to get the juices flow--oh geez, I couldn't finish that with a straight face.

Anyway, this marks the third message board I've seen with a bot problem. There was a bot that posted on Westcoaster, and we've also been dealing with them over at New Element.

We haven't had as many lately, but somehow, they were able to get past the security number code thing you need to type in when you register (the image with six funky looking numbers and letters), and some may have even gotten past the email validation we put in later.

And for those who still haven't understood:

SPAM THREAD = blatant advertisement, often for items not even remotely related to the content of the site, using language similar to that found in Spam E-Mails. Often, the post doesn't even match the topic of the forum it's in.

WC's example (altho it actually happened to be posted in the right forum here...

Trust me, guys, it's obvious.

That was truely hilarious robb...I know you were serious but that gave me my gut hurting laugh for the day...but yeah spam is pointless and a waste of time, and can be easily recognized.

My God, I hate spammers. They ruin the fun for all of the people who are actually loyal to the site they are spamming on! If I could, I would find those crap-filled brown paper bags, and light them on fire with a blowtorch while spraying them with a special mixture of Axe spray deoderant, Old Spice, and a combination of gasoline and cooking wine! Then I would call all of you to watch the inferno. There will be cold drinks and hot popcorn being served at various vendors around the perimiter of the burning spammer. You can also buy little 1 oz. bottles of lighter fluid with the words "BURN THE SPAMMER!" printed on the front, both as a souvenier and as a tool to keep the fire going! I shall be sending invitations once I round them all up.

I figure this would be the best thread to ask this...is there a "Report Post" function on here? Maybe I'm blind and not seeing it, but I thought there was one...then again I frequent enough forums to get mixed up.
