New Jersey Shore Parks...help

Recommended Posts

Well, Kingda Ka and Hydra aren't going to take a whole week so I've decided to visit the small parks in Jersey.

I've never been to any of the piers before and using the rcdb for them is kinda confusing. There are alot listed but I don't know which are the best, which are still operating, or even if one company owns several piers.

For anyone whose been before, what would be the best way to see everything efficiently? I don't mind a little driving, but I'd like to squeeze the most into a day that I can.

Also, I haven't been to Clementon yet either but the park doesn't really seem worth the admission price just for J2.

Any thoughts, comments? I'm planning on going in the first part of June, after memorial day if that helps.

-Thanks

-Don

Wildwood, NJ is a great place to go! They have at least 3 'pier's' with coasters on them and an awesome boardwalk...including LIVE TARGET PAINTBALL!!! All of the amusement piers are owned by Morey's and you can get an all day wristband.

If you'd really like to credit whore it up you can go to Atlantic City, Ocean City, Seaside Heights, and Point Pleasant, all of which each have a few credits.

I had more fun than I thought I would on my first trip to the 'jersey shore'. I wish I had had more time, oh well, there's always next time!

Thanks! I'm going to plot all these on my map and see if I can connect the dots in any discernable order. At any rate, it looks like Wildwood is now a definate stop.

Clementon is still in the air, I'm planning an open day incase KK is having issues on our first day there. Always good to have a contingency plan.

I guess I can thank Hershey for not building Turbulence, thus freeing up an extra day. I wonder if the New Jersey water is safe to swim in....

New Jersey Water - NO! They call it America's Arm Pit for a reason!

If you have some time they actually all do go together pretty well, but make sure to do it midweek or you can get stuck in some GNARLY traffic!

Start at SFGAd, then head out towards the ocean on the 195. Point Pleasant ---> Seaside --->Atlantic City ---> Ocean City ---> Wildwood ---> Clementon

Of course you could also reverse this quite easily.

I wouldn't go to Ocean City or Atlantic City unless you really want the credits.

Ocean City this year is really not great. Gillian's got rid of their City Jet coaster so all they have is a small Miner Mike kiddie coaster and a Wacky Worm (they are supposed to get a new coaster this year but construction has not started). Playland's Castaway Cove got rid of their Mighty Mouse coaster and today, all that was running was the Flitzer (their Python Pinfairi Looping Coaster had some track on the ground so I'm not sure what's going on there).

Steel Pier in Atlantic City only has a Crazy Mouse spinning coaster and some kiddie coaster and I think unless you buy an all day pass, just to ride the Crazy Mouse once is $5.25. I think Atlantic City overall is just dissapointing in how there is so little there compared to Las Vegas. Tivoli Pier, the other park in Atlantic City (it was inside the Tropicana) closed and more and more casino's seem to want to keep families out of Atlantic City with some casino's starting a policy where you have to be 18 just to enter the place (not the actual casino floor but also the entire building including the shops and restaurants)

Oh cmon Elissa, the water is fine here! Especially at the nice beaches like Wildwood, LBI, and Point Pleasant.

Best bet would be to hit up Point Pleasant for the Beach, Seaside for the Boardwalk, AC for the Boardwalk and Casinos (just to say you did it) and Wildwood for the Beach, Boardwalk (Watch the Tram Car Please) and the Piers. And don't miss out on Clementon either!

If you do go to Atlantic City, be sure to visit "The Quarter" at the Tropicana. They just redid it is great. Shelly and I spent a weekend there in February and loved it! The Theming makes It feels like it was lifted right out of IOA! (Without the rides)

^^thanks for the OC/AC tips. I'll check the map but it sounds like there isn't much of a draw there coasterwise.

^I'd love to go visit Atlantic City and the Boardwalk but due to time constraints if I did go my time there would be limited. I've found that with these types of places not much is really gained from a rush trip through. It took me 3 trips to Vegas before we actually stayed in the city more than an afternoon. I definately got more out of it then.

Looks like Wildwood and Clementon are definately on the list with the others as possibilities depending on how are time goes. Does "swingman" still work there? I've been wanting to see that guy since '01!

I may actually end up back at playland for the credits we missed last summer (flyer, mouse, and that steel family one).

Elissa, I actually heard the beaches in the LA area are dirtier then in NJ. Not to start a flame war but a tipbit I got from a few friends of mine. As for the seashore parks only Morey's in my opinion is worth it. All of the small parks have really mediocre to awful versions of small coasters that can be found in CP, KW, or anywhere else for that matter.
