^ That one and the one at Coney Island are enjoyable coasters. I haven't found them rough at all. The one at Canada's Wonderland was noticeably rougher though.

Historic carousel catches fire at amusement park

playland_fire.jpg

Firefighters rushed to Playland in Rye in Westchester County on Sunday as smoke and flames shot up from the park’s historic carousel, witnesses said.

The blaze started at about 3:45 p.m., witnesses said.

News 12 of Westchester reported the blaze was put out quickly — but not before visible damage was done to the roof.

No injuries were immediately reported.

The carousel at Playland was originally built in 1915 and has 66 horses, according to the park’s Web site.

“This is a great work of mechanical precision and artistic merit,” according to the park’s description.

Firefighters, in a bucket ladder, could be seen blasting water at the top of the smoking carousel.

While the carousel was obviously closed, Playland remained opened and was still schedule for its regular 10 p.m. closing, a park operator said

Was this the Cedar Downs derby-style carousel? If so, I guess I can scratch Rye off my trip list for next week. :/

Nope. It was their standard Carousel across the midway.

Not sure how many knew (or cared), but the park--in particular its Ferris Wheel was featured in the climax of Netflix's Jessica Jones Season 2.

You'd better ride it. It's the best of the 3 and if you ask the employee they'll stand on the ride with you and maybe do tricks while it's operating.

Question:
What's the easiest way to get from NYC to Rye? I am staying with friends in Woodside, so I can get to any subway train.

Thanks!

Easiest would be Uber. Maybe not the cheapest, though...
