Rattling

Postby JRHcoasterki » Thu May 03, 2012 8:07 am

Okay, so this is my first post. I feel stupid asking this, but while going through the forums I notice sometimes people talk about "rattling." I have tried to understand, but I just can't. =) I know I read a post one time that said Diamondback at KI was rattling. (That's just an example.) Could you explain what rattling is exactly?

Why do I still have a donkey title???

When the ride is running, you feel the train shuffling more than it should (you'll usually feel this on steel coasters).

I worked on Diamondback for the 2009 season and it's had a rattle (more noticeable on the back half of the train, outer seats) since the day it opened. If you sit in row 16, you'll feel the rattle the worst at the bottom of the hill coming out of the turn around into the 3rd hill/trim hill. It's still a top 10 ride for me despite the flaw; some people only talk about that aspect of the ride, others don't even mention the rattle.

Honestly I avoid the outer seats in the back of the train for this reason. It's really annoying and feels like someone threw dry cement on the track. It hasn't gotten worse or better in my opinion... Kings Island hasn't been able to put in a ride with 0 problems or obscurities and that's what separates them from Busch, top of the line Six Flags parks, Universal, and Disney.
