  1. I am not convinced by the voice (although I am Dutch and can understand what he is saying). But I really like the looks of him! He looks angry, annoyed and a little scary for small children: perfect for the Efteling! Contrary to current fashion I think children should see some scary stuff, I really enjoyed that when I was a child myself. The endless 'happy feeling' colorful plastic attractions that are being built everywhere makes me feel sad. This is also the reason Symbolica is my least favorite of the big attractions in the Efteling. The Flying Dutchman just has so much more atmosphere, even if it is decades old. Same for the Fata Morgana which is even older.
  2. I can reccomand this site: https://9292.nl/en It's a travel planner that includes all trains and busses in the netherlands. Easy to get some advice from it to go from Schiphol to the Efteling. (you can simply type in 'Schiphol' and 'Efteling' and pick a date/time)
  3. The Efteling is big on tradition. They still have attractions going that where build in 1956 (like the gold coin pooping donkey). A few more decades and it is as much a museum as it is a family park . I like this approach because it is rare and novel, and even though some of the attractions show their age (like the haunting house and the Pandadream), others stand the test of time remarkedly well. The only attraction I know off they ever demolished was the 'Pegasus', which they replaced with a better wooden coaster.
  4. I think you mean first multilooper or largest steel coaster? When I check Wiki it says it was the largest one in europe at the time. Not exactly the same. I must have picked up this slightly wrong factoid somewhere and remembered it wrong... Either way, it is a classic if you are dutch (everyone grew up with it: I remember being scared of it as a kid more than 30 years ago). But as it is old, slow and the only unthemed attraction in the whole park - it is not my favorite. I mean, even the cash machines and trash cans are themed and interactive....
  5. I never trust these after going to Gröna lund once when they said it should be an empty day The queue for the wild mouse was an hour and the funhouse was an hour 20 minutes No but really I looked on the website and if I have to miss python and fatamorgana it's fine so I'll probably go there early week maybe 12th and 13th of september? Sounds good to me: most of the good stuff is open those days. I like the Fata Morgana personally, but there are several other dark rides (personal favorite: the flying Dutchman. Not an impressive coaster, but very highly themed and with a few nice dark ride surprises). The Python is only interesting from a history/nostalgia point of view in my opinion: it was the first steel coaster in Europe, but it is old and there are plenty more spectacular ones all over Europe. In my visits (I have access the whole year and go every other week or so in the summer) the business estimation was pretty accurate. But it is just an estimate of course I hope you enjoy the park! Take some good walking shoes and some lunch/snacks with you: the park covers a big area!
  6. Summer/school holidays in The South of the Netherlands are until August 27, so If you go after that day on a weekday it should not be too busy. On the site the efteling gives a handy 'business indicator' on a day-to-day basis: https://www.efteling.com/en/park/opening-hours Only downside of not going in august on a friday or saturday is missing the opportunity to see Aquanura in the dark . Also keep an eye on closed attractions: several are in maintenance in september: https://www.efteling.com/en/park/information/in-maintenance I know from experiance it is hard to find the perfect balance between busyness, opening hours and maintenance windows.
  7. I only did the treasure tour so far. I have mixed feelings. It is very well made, lots of details. Great for small children. I also love the effort they did on the outside to make the building seem smaller than it is. But on the other hand, I found the inside too plasticy and 'merry'. Also, the little game/selection points might be nice for the people in the front seat, but it is just an annoying hold-up for the people in the back row. In general, It is a high quality ride, but I prefer the more gritty rides like the flying dutchman and the Fata Morgana. I would prefer if the Efteling sticks with its own darker fairytale style: nobody else does that like they do, while this ride looks like it could be in any Disney park.
  8. Agree. Although the Efteling has often made weird things look good somehow. Very curious how it looks when it's finished.
  9. I got stuck in it for 20 minutes and ate a sandwich at a 45-degree angle in December . But it has had major maintenance in February, so it is probably fine. Still a very nice themed dark ride/coaster. Not a real thrill-ride, of course, but I did manage to talk my mum on to it. It scared here properly, so I am probably just spoiled with the bigger stuff like the Baron.
  10. The Efteling has been at it since 1952. Their fairy tales have always been more 'Grimm' than 'Disney'. It has not been a problem for their popularity. On the contrary, many people (like me) prefer it because there is already so much Disney in the world. I also prefer their more 'real'/gritty representation. For the small children - where these small fairy tales in the Efteling are aimed at - everything is magic: I don't think they even associate it with Disney's version.
