  1. ^ X2 in cold, winds, or both. There's a procedure for warming up the trains to get them ready to go asap, but X does have a history of valleying, so a bunch of precaution is taken with it. Riddler's doesn't close anymore, as it has a "rain mode" to accomodate slippage. Goliath does less and less, depending. Most rides will cut down the number of trains depending on the ride or how hard the rain is. While rides CAN be operated in the rain, the experience is really compromised, in my opinion. But that's just my personal take. -Jahan
  2. Hey guys. Quick update from this weekend, another turn and a lot of connecting transitions went up. This thing is going up FAST!!! -Jahan One last shot of the two bigger turns that have gone up. Thanks for reading! Still more bents in the back, awaiting erection! Oooooh! Looks like they're prepping for more work behind Deja, on the other side of the ride! The newest and the oldest construction, you can see all the new transitions and and the end of the ride sweeps around. ...and here's a close-up of what has primarily been completed so far. Up in the SkyTower, here's an overview of the construction. The original turn is still just chilling. A shot by the old Psyclone sign. All of this added construction was despite some heavy rain (for SoCal). The coaster isn't even half built, and it's already shaping the skyline on this side of the park! Next to last week's turn, the final turn also went up this past week. "Hi. I'm Chris Fourmont. And welcome to the Terminator construction!"
  3. The state investigation (the first of its kind) concluded that the boy was placed on the wrong side of the vehicle (on the open-door side, not the closed, as is the policy) and the lapbar wasn't securely fastened, which doesn't surprise me--somewhat typical when the CMs have to hit a certain dispatch interval. There wasn't any mechanical failure, but Disney is faulted for both operation error and their poor response. With accidents like this, it takes a lot of things going wrong to make something like this happen. Believe it or not, a lot of safety IS engineered into the attraction and the operation policy. My point is, yes this would have never happened if the mom paid more attention--but it also wouldn't have happened if Disney changed one of many things on their end. -Jahan
  4. LOL! Congrats Colin! That's quite an achievement, from one non-runner to a runner! Seeing these events makes me wish I was physically capable and mentally dedicated enough to participate, if anything, to see the show that Disney puts on! But at the end of the day, that's what I have you and your pictures for. Lol. -Jahan
  5. ^ I agree! I thought last year's WCB was probably one of the greatest one-day events that a park has ever thrown for enthusiasts. I sure hope that this year continues that. I'll be there. -Jahan
  6. Terminator is still flat, but many more bents have been moved onto the slab, in preparation for vertical construction. -Jahan
  7. I don't know if I find this funny because I'm someone who is absolutely reliant on my car, because the sexual freedom in America was founded IN CARS (or at least in the backseat), or because I simply don't have sex-- --either way, I find it funny! -Jahan
  8. ^ The ride was still flat as of Sunday, and the park is currently closed. I'm sure if we're all patient we can find out the progress this upcoming weekend, unless the park wishes to share potential progress sooner. With all the rain and fog in the week leading up to New Year's, I doubt fires were the real reason. Six Flags didn't cancel the summer fireworks until this past summer, but brush fires have always been a threat in Southern California. Please let the fire marshall and the park management be the judge of fire danger conditions. And fireworks weren't an advertised part of the event, but the added pyro was supposed to enhance the SkyTower countdown. Take issue with that if you will, but don't act like you were promised fireworks. -Jahan
  9. Hey everyone, for those who care, I noticed that SFMM no longer opens at 10:00am anymore! The last year, the park had been opening at 10:00am on weekends, 10:30am on weekdays. Now the park opens altogether at 10:30am! http://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/info/parkInfo.aspx Also, it would appear that the park closes at weird times on some days, like 6:30pm. So just a heads up. No more trip reports saying that they opened the park 30 minutes late! -Jahan
  10. I was there. I had to leave before the countdown celebration, but I was actually very happy with the event! The entrance plaza was great! Full of lights, people, and a DJ centered right above the Valencia Falls fountains! Adjacent to the entrance plaza was the Guitar Hero competition (with a decent line!) and the other "personal" entertainment venues. The top of the hill was restricted to the VIP event. Laughing Dragon was partied up and served dinner to the VIPs, as well as Superman and Ninja ERT. As far as the countdown, while I missed it unfortunately, I saw the work that went into it and heard about it and was very impressed. The "2008/9 number lights" were somewhat visible from my place, 5 miles away! When the countdown happened, pyrotechnics were shot off the side of the tower, per number, and then shot off the top at the year change. I would LOVE to see pictures of this! Anyway, it was a very cool event! So cool, that safely the saddest part was that the park wasn't very crowded! The two days before the 31st safely had twice as much attendance as the 31st. And not to be a snob, but it was a great decision to have a 12:00 closing because everyone piled out right after the countdown! Maybe when the event grows, we can see later close-times. Anyway, that was my take. I hope to hear others, and maybe even some pictures! -Jahan
  11. Perhaps in an effort to keep conversation on the Terminator Salvation coaster, instead of whatever we want to talk about, an overview-update picture is in order. I took this photo with my phone, as I wasn't expecting to get to go up the SkyTower, as it's closed for the New Year event assembly. A few things to note-- -The slab is FULLY poured! -Bents are staring to be positioned for erection! (teeheehee!) -The current work involved filling the "island" with dirt. -The massive turn anchors were being welded and assembled (two visible in the picture). -Hard to tell in the picture, but Dejavu is sporting part of it's new refreshed paint job. -Not visible (sorry, my phone camera nowhere near matches my real one), but the bent anchors have been installed and in-person you can make-out the ride layout by following the footings. I would guess that vertical construction isn't far off. Merry Christmas! -Jahan
  12. I've walked up the hill 20 times a week and can safely say that it's something that you NEVER get used to--it never gets easier. LOL. That being said, it's my personal gut feeling that the "transport ride", as coined by RCT, is primarily a thing of the past. There is little opporutnity to market such a conveyance. And taming the mountain is sure to be a costly expense, no matter what. A "Orient Express" on the west-side is a luxury amidst a list of necessities the park should be taking care of. Plot and plan as you wish, I don't see it happening. Long story short, if you don't like the hill, don't ride Superman. -Jahan
  13. Very interesting coaster. I'm watching with intrigued eyes, definitely. Thank you Adam and Bryan for all of the updates! Great photos and captions. Much appreciated! -Jahan
  14. No offense to all, really, but I still think the New Year's event is being overanalyzied. The park is trying to offer another alternative on New Year's Eve. This is something they havn't done before (or at least in a while) and they're going to try out an event that will be free of the alcohol and congestion other parks and venues bring. Simple as that. I don't know much about this event, but wouldn't rule out the possiblity of a "soft close". Of course, that would be "staffing permitting" (try and run Disneyland with as much unavoidable dependancy on minors as Magic has and tell me you can keep the park open until 2am). And speaking on personal experience as a guest to Magic, I guarentee you that you will be "done" with the park by 10 and likely just reluctantly re-riding and waiting around for the New Year event so that you can go home. Simple as that. Perhaps I'm just speaking as the non-party animal that I am. -Jahan
  15. This has happened only one other time in the park's history, in the '70s. I'm sure the park will have a force at the end of Magic Mountain parkway, explaining the situation. -Jahan
