  1. It looks neat. I would have much preferred a new Wooden coaster in the boardwalk section, but this looks like a solid addition overall. Crackaxle Canyon has been sorely lacking in the flat ride category ever since they replaced Wagon Wheel with the slingshot ride. I can see why the would go a few years between coasters with a few flat rides. They were on a tear with the coasters for a while.
  2. While not my favorite coaster, the boomerang at Fiesta Texas isn't a bad ride. Not exactly smooth, but it isn't uncomfortable imho. At this point, there aren't really any 'bad' coasters at the park nowadays.
  3. Someday I hope to go to this park. It looks neat, if a little ghetto compared to other parks. My friend who works at Silver Dollar City now on the railroad there used to operate the train at WOF. He told me the park was kind of a mixed bag of high quality and downright awful rides. He's not a amusement park aficionado so I can't say. I WILL say that you guys shouldn't complain about this change to the coaster too much. At least Cedar Fair isn't demolition happy with wooden coasters like Six Flags is (even if the new rides were often better). This just means they're dedicated to giving a ride the best chance it can at being awesome. Look at Ghost Rider's rebuild on this. It went from a wild, but mostly unrideable coaster, to one of the best coasters in the world again. This can't be anything but a good thing. Also, helixes are generally boring and stupid. Google: Rattler Six Flags Fiesta Texas Helix. This will tell you all you need to know.
  4. For those who are complaining about the PPH on this coaster.... do note that hot 90+ degree HUMID days in Texas are a factor for the rides in this park. By mid afternoon 60+% of the main park empties into the waterpark. Some of the coasters become walk-ons, even with single train operations. The only real exceptions are rides like Pandemonium with an air conditioned queue. It DOES suck that the numbers are gonna be low on it, but even Batman: The Ride has a relatively short line on a hot day, and it's got a horrible capacity as well. The same can be said for a lot of other rides in the park. Just my 2 cents. This ride replaces on of my family's favorite rides in the park (we know Power Surge was nothing special), but I think it'll be something really awesome.
  5. And why would RMC want to sell their patented topper track to GCI? The closest they could get without infringing would be an edge to edge plate over the top layer, which is basically what GG did on Hades, installed a wider top plate (running steel) which still leaves you with a maintenance issue when water finds its way in, sits, and rots out the wood. I never said RMC would sell their topper track to GCI. I'm merely suggesting that Six Flags have RMC build the track for the hypothetical coaster.
  6. This would be an amazing addition next year, and could be likely since we're the only Six Flags park with no wooden coaster. Next time I go, I'll snap a pic of the mysterious construction going on behind the boardwalk so we can speculate. Would be possible. Especially after a couple of the boardwalk rides like S.S. Overboard closing. I won't get my hopes up after several straight years of GREAT additions to the park. If they were smart they would build a GCI with topper track and some poly-wheels. That sucker would be smooth and last quite a while.
  7. I'm hoping for a decent wooden coaster soon for the boardwalk in the coming years. Something with a nice bit of airtime and plenty of twisties. I know it's been a few years since Six Flags bought a classic style wooden coaster, but a GCI twister would rock in that section of the park.
  8. I find that unlikely. That would mean you would have TWO Premiere launched coasters right next to each other.
  9. Basically you show a video here in response to how most people feel about an event, ride, amusement park, ride manufacturer, etc. that you may or may not agree with. I'll start first. The Typical Response to rides from B&M. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  10. How about the various parts and systems of a roller coaster that help keep it safe for the riders? From chain dogs, rollbacks, and upstop wheels, to the complicated computer system, to the components that bring the train to a full, safe stop. If there's one topic not talked about enough in the amusement industry to the GP, it's what helps make the various rides SAFE.
  11. Wow, that's great to see! I'll have to buy that app. As for Chris, I'm not sure why people continue to want to debate things I've said about the games business, Chris, etc, as if they know more than I do, but I do actually chat with Chris from time to time (if you are also chatting with Chris as well, then I apologize), but here is what he told me in a recent discussion: "Not much to report on the games front - I doubt I will be directly programming or designing anything myself in the foreseeable future, but the RCT franchise will continue in some form or another." (Meaning that Atari owns the rights to it and they have plans for it) So from what he has directly told me, he's no longer doing much with games. Sure, he might have consulted on that version of Transport Tycoon and it looks exactly like his original design (which makes you question even more why couldn't Atari do this???) but unless he's flat out lying to me, I really do not think he's doing games any more. I'm not in contact with him. It's mostly just stuff I've seen and heard in a million different places. From what I understand, Chris does OWN the studio, but his role is mostly what it was for RCT3. He's mostly just there to oversee things somewhat and offer consultation. Otherwise its the rest of the team that make the decisions.
  12. Actually, Chris Sawyer is still in the gaming industry. He owns a studio and worked with a team to port Locomotion to mobile as Transport Tycoon. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  13. I've ridden Boardwalk Bullet. Right now the roughness is hit or miss really. Some days it's screaming by at a 100mph smoothest woody ever, and other days it's slow, sluggish, boring, and rough as nails. It's actually a ride that gets taken well care of though. You'll regularly find stacks of lumber somewhere around it and fresh yellow pine on some sections. The best time to ride it is at night. It gets absolutely nuts then.
  14. I haven't ridden very many roller coasters, but I have ridden The Rattler as it used to be and the Boardwalk Bullet. Both had PTCs when I rode them (Bullet still does), and both were very rough, though Rattler MUCH more so. I can say that PTCs are easily some of the worst things to happen to many wooden roller coasters. It's like riding in a cardboard box full of bricks down a staircase. The only thing the Timberliners will do is keep the track from getting progressively worse.
  15. My guess is Iron Rattler being closed is Six Flags way of say, "hey look guys, we care about safety, look we're conducting a full investigation!" But yeah, I'm sure the truth is they could have left Texas Giant open and not missed a cycle and nothing more would happen. However the media backlash from that would be devistating for the park. I expect Iron Rattler to reopen Saturday and Texas Giant to follow in another week or so. The park needs to draw that fine line between figuring out how long to leave it closed in order to make the public happy. True, but I can see this biting them in the ass as well. I'm not saying it will! However, when there are closures of the same ANYTHING, people begin to question whether or not there is something wrong with that "thing". This is obviously not the most logical train of thought, but when you have a situation like this people tend to leave their brains at the door.
