  1. I've been a site controller for two summers, so I have had plenty of time to read through the manual (which you are basically supposed to know by heart for the written exam). At the end of the manual there is a section of safety bulletins, a few of which are about injuries. And yeah, the only serious ones are of employees screwing around before and after park hours. The one's about guests are like "A flyer injured his finger while grabbing the landing pole". In my opinion, Skycoasters are just about the safest things out there. At my site the only "injuries" we have had are the jock type guys who try to impress everyone by landing the flight early (we have the manual landing pole so it's all about the leg muscles baby) and end up falling on their ass.
  2. Hey, I've been to this park a couple of times! Went there in 1999 (seemed pretty new back then), and again in 2001 or 2002. I have such good memories from this park. Cobra used to be my favorite rollercoaster, man I was such a coaster newbie back then. But i remember it pretty smooth! It's the only SLC I've been on, but I guess there are much rougher ones out there. Other rides were also cool, especially the WTF swinging pirate ship ride. They seriously must have forgot to install the proper restraints on that. People would look like they were about to fall out of the ride all the time! I remember they let a drunk guy on the row in front of me with a glass (!) of beer in his hand from which he kept drinking and spilling throughout the whole ride as his body was thrown left, right and center because of the monkey business restraints. Ratanga Junction also had some nice themeing. Nothing like Disney or IOA, but still pretty good in it's own right. The Cobra queue line was awesome. It was inside this cave with a bunch of sweet snakes in glass cages all around. They also had some pretty cool shows, stunt shows and such. Alas, I believe the park hasn't seen any new rides since it opened. Too bad, because it really is a nice little park and it's right next to a ridiculously large mall which means that there are a lot of potential visitors. Space might be an issue though... Hope it gets shown a little love soon because let's face it, Africa isn't excactly overrun with decent theme parks...
  3. Hehe, that is true. Well, we're not supposed to run it longer than 2 mins, but most people go over that time limit. We're also not supposed to get the riders wet, which is definitely not what actually goes on lol. Does your friend work the rides (attraksjoner)?
  4. Yeah it used to launch from the ground. Now it goes up about 3 metres slowly before it launches. Maybe I'm just picky, but i think the launch is much weaker now than before. Nevertheless, it's a good ride if I don't have to wait for it.
  5. Alright boys and girls, this here's my first trip review so cut me some slack. Anyways, this past Sunday i decided to put some of my complimentary tickets to use, so i took my family to Tusenfryd. We arrived at 10:15, 15 minutes before opening, and since everyone already had tickets we didn't need to stand in any lines at the ticket booths. We went to Speed Monster first thing, and me and one of my brothers were on the first train of the day. My mom, sister and other brother were on the second train. Great ride as always, although my brothers and mom were pretty terrified afterwards hehe. Afterwards we went to the bumper cars since it's right next to Speed Monster and usually gets a fairly big (and painfully slow line). After that we did the log flume, which also gets ridiculously long lines sometimes during the day. It was still barely 11 o'clock so we went to Thundercoaster, which was a walk-on. We then went up to the top of the park and did some flats while we waited for the Skycoaster to open. The Skycoaster is my main ride that i work on, and i love it to death. Managed to get my sister up with me on the first flight of the day. Later we went down to Supersplash, then did some more smaller rides and ate at Solgrillen (still got the best burgers in the park IMO). I won't bore you with any more details about our day. I'll let the pictures do the talking. The lines later in the day were long for nearly everything (at least to norwegian standards) so we left pretty early. Still a great day at the park! Hope you enjoy the pics! Just as we were leaving Speed Monster poked it's head out of the forest to say goodbye. Byebye Speed Monster! Thanks for reading! Some places it just looks like a complete mess of track There are some awesome positive G's at the bottom! Diving under the escalator. It goes pretty darn close to the path. Some people actually mistake the track for monkey bars and start climbing about. Ah, more corkscrew. Screw=good! The line actually got pretty long as you can see. This is the station and the corkscrew! Now for what you've all been waiting for: Speed Monster!!! Escalator goodness. Yay for chairswings. Well, I like them so blah This one's for the credit whores only. I hit it once, that was enough lol. You don't get that wet at all any more, but still it's good fun when it goes splash! Supersplash going into the tunnel. I liked this ride more before, still a fun ride though. The log flume is getting pretty old and dated, unfortunately. I only ride it when there's no line. This one's for Derek and everyone else that love vertical loops. Yay Loopen was not as painful as the last time i rode it. Not too bad at all actually, rode in last car. Roll-Over. This ride is manually operated, which means that us ops get to do whatever we want to the guests I hate taking it though, oh the pain!! The Skycoaster!! My favorite ride in the park. Love working it and love riding it. S&S launch tower "Japp Space Shot". Still a nice ride, but i liked it better before the new modifications. Second drop of airtime-insanity-in-the-back-row. Seriously, i felt like i was going to be thrown into the forest. OMG through the trees! OMG through the supports, which are made from trees! OMG That's better! The line was never longer than about 15 minutes at the worst. Almost no stacking. Here's a tip for you all: red train runs a lot smoother than the green train *and* has a shorter lap time. You suck, green train!!! Thundercoaster, everyone's favorite Vekoma It was actually running great, despite the dry weather. For all you station lovers out there. OK, I'll try not to bore you with more Speed Monster pics until later. It comes pretty close to the escalator, so close you can almost touch it! Or not... No one can miss Speed Monster as they enter the park. Very standard picture, but still an awesome park entrance.
  6. I rode Duelling Dragons with pretty loose Converse shoes. No problem at all, if you're worried tie your shoelaces while you're queueing (I assume the $90 pair of shoes came with laces as well lol).
  7. I'm a ride op at Tusenfryd, and as people have said, some rides can be pretty tiring. Speed Monster is tiring because of the short cycle times, so you never get to rest and the restraints are super hard to push down each time! The spiel and the engine revving are not that bad though, i tend to not notice them after a while. Only two ops on this one, maybe three in peak. Thundercoaster is also a tiring one. There are usually only two operators working on it, which makes it a race to prevent stacking. Checking twelve belts on each side, then twelve restraints, all while bending your back and going as fast as you can really works you after some hours. However, it's not so bad as it sounds because on both Thundercoaster and Speed Monster you usually get into a good rythm with the other op, which makes it a lot of fun and the time flies by. Loopen is pretty alright, because it only runs one train, so you get some time in between to relax. Supersplash can get really mentally tiring because of the loud noise coming from the water roaring right next to the station. Gives me a headache. But perhaps the most tiring one can be the Skycoaster, where I spend most of my days (I'm a Site Controller). Since it's a small one we have to manually brake the flyers, which really works on your legs and shoulders. Also, the lines can get very long because of the low capacity, which means you never really get a break in between. I still love the Skycoaster, but a hydraulic landing pole would be nice
  8. Both chang and georgia scorcher have yellow track if i remember correctly, but chang has more purplish trains. My guess would be chang!
  9. I have never been on any B&M standup .. But I have been on SkyRider at PCW... oooh yeah, Togo goodness!
  10. you all need to come to the park on a rainy day. This year, every day the weather was bad, the rides were pretty much walk-on, except for thundercoaster which would maybe have a 2-train wait. And if it's really pouring, thundercoaster really goes friggin fast, sometimes so fast we have to call the supervisor to check if it's ok and safe to put people in the trains lol. next year i predict the lines will be longer though...
  11. speed monster for sure! just a couple more months before i get to test-ride it
  12. wow! some nice pics there, guys. Well, I got some taken inside the park yesterday. Although it was already getting dark when i got into work at 4 pm (damn short winter days), I hope you can see what is going on in these pics. Some more track pieces had been placed since the last time i took pics, but nothing major so the main difference is the angle. Well, enjoy the pics. Just before the sun went all the way down, I snapped this pic. Thought it turned out pretty nice, even if it doesn't display anything new. The parking lots are really empty once again now that all the track pieces are gone. The escalator taken from the other side of the merry-go round. Here you can see the finished messed-up bunnyhop, as well as the new track that's been laid since my last pics. Whoa, looks like just riding the escalator will be kick-ass (no lines for it either)!
  13. yeah you're right, that is actually a bunny hop. sure looked like a corkscrew in that pic though... sorry
  14. Hey again! I found a couple more pics, and since y'all seem to be enjoying them so much i decided to post a couple more. I see there aren't many pics around that are taken from inside the park, so if I get the time I might go take some tomorrow before work. About the number of inversions, I think there are only going to be 3 "proper" inversions. However, as someone pointed out earlier, the second time the train goes over the escalator, the immelman is not completely upside down. So there will be like 3.5 inversions i guess Oh, and the corkscrew-hops will not go under the launch track, although that would have been kick-ass. As for the last pic: Yeah, I know... It's way dark. But it's pretty cool to see what Speed Monster will look like from inside the park... If you squint real hard you might make out the 3 times it crosses over the escalator. Oh well, I gotta go. It's friday night after all! cheers! Speed Monster at night. Taken from inside the park... yet another angle of the escalator. I guess you have a pretty good idea of what it looks like now, huh? This was taken from the admin parking lot (no im not an admin at Tusenfryd, just a low-life employee).
  15. Decided to put in a couple more pics for ya... Just for kicks. I work at Tusenfryd off-season as well, so I've been able to see the whole building process up close. As mentioned before, these pics were taken yesterday. Oh, and don't diss my photo taking skills, the screen on my digital cam is shattered. track doing it's little banked turn thingy in between some trees. as you can see from these pics, Tusenfryd is really in the middle of the forest. here's the corkscrew... and then the track stops lol another angle... here you can see the how the track comes in from the launch and goes around the escalator.
