  1. Thanks, David. Yeah, we really didn't mean to go during spring break (I avoid travel then if I can) but a friend of ours is in a drag race that's being filmed for tv at SA Raceway, so we thought we'd go see that and make a vacation out of it. And we feel like if we're going to the trouble of traveling down there, we really can't miss the Alamo, since it's, like, the first thing most people (who don't live there) think of when you mention SA. So, for two adults, no kids, is Sea World really a full-day park? I still think I'm leaning towards going there, since we've got SFStL and SFGAm near enough, but I'm afraid to miss out on anything really great. I really hate making decisions...
  2. Dang it! And we had a whole theme day planned, finishing with a trip to see the bats in Austin... I looked into Schlitterbahn, but from what I can tell by their website they don't open until April. A shame, but I'm having a hard enough time deciding between two parks. Thanks for the tips, though!
  3. Thanks, guys! That was very helpful. We'll definitely have to check out Casa Rio, and possibly Jim Cullum's. And we'll be sure to avoid the Italian place, of course! Still trying to decide about the theme parks. Leaning towards Sea World, though, mainly out of concern for the crowds... Thanks again!
  4. Hello, all! My husband and I are taking a sort-of last minute vacation to San Antonio in March, and I'm hoping some of you can give me some tips or opinions on the area, as we've never been there. We're going March 7 through 13th. He has a drag racing thing that's going to eat up all day the 8th and probably most of the 10th, too. We know we have to do the Alamo, but what else? I noticed that SFFT and Sea World both open that weekend, and we'd like to do at least one of them. If we ~have~ to do only one, which one should we do? It occurs to me that we'll be there at the height of Spring Break , so any tips on how to deal with that would also be appreciated. Also, any suggestions on places to eat, especially along the Riverwalk, would be helpful, too. And anything else that we "must see". Really, any advice anyone can offer would be great - I usually like the planning part of trips almost as much as the trip itself, so this feels very rushed and last minute to me, and I 'm looking for HELP!
  5. We used to go to SFGAm every summer when I was little, and I rode anything and everything I was tall enough for. I remember when Z-Force opened, and it looked, to my young eyes, like the coolest ride ever(!!!). But I was too short to ride it (by centimeters), so I had to stay behind while other people in our group rode. The next summer, I was tall enough, but the line was too long (according to my parents), so I wasn't able to ride. By the time I made it back to the park, it was gone! Argh - from what I've read about it, it wasn't that great, but it just looked so neat when I was young. I also declined to go on High Roller in Vegas. I still can't decide if I regret that or not...
  6. Tower of Terror's drop mechanism is an elevator (although it's maker, Otis, prefers it to be referred to as a ride vehicle. so there are no negative associations with their usual product). It pulls you up and down in the shaft rather than just dropping you (it is not actually a "free fall"). This is how they are able to change the drop sequences, something they could not do in a traditional drop ride. I forget the way the ToT CMs to explain the drop...something like "faster velocity than the force due to gravity" (that doesn't seem right - it's something all technical and fancy-like, though. I don't remember - I wasn't in attractions ).
  7. Wow...it's really cool to be able to see this stuff, especially the rides that were so new and innovative at the time (and pretty much standard or old at this point!) It's also interesting (to me, anyway) to see how many of the Arrow rides from the first brochure were in now defunct parks. Old Chicago, Adventureland (Addison, IL?!), Nara Dreamland and Circus World were just some of the ones that caught my eye... Very cool stuff - thanks for sharing!
  8. Very cool pictures! I really never get tired of seeing "old" stuff, and you had some pictures with different perspectives than I'm used to. Thanks!
  9. Still ok to add to this thread? I just have to show off! Baby Bailey, on the way home from the Humane Sociaety. She's about 3 months old here. Bailey, now, about 4 years old. The Bales has a wicked underbite - hence the "snarly" look she's giving us. The rarest picture of all - Beezy showing off her "full tooths" grin.
  10. Hello! My name is Holly, and I originally wandered onto this site in 2006 when I was doing research for my wedding at WDW (I'm a former CM there, too!). I probably won't post much, but I have had a ton of fun reading the trip reports and looking at the pics (I love pictures!). If I ever win the lottery, I plan to make theme park hopping in Japan a priority. Oh, and I guess Six Flags St Louis would be my "home" park, as it's the one physically closest to us, but I've never been there. I prefer Disney parks anyway (residual brainwashing, I guess...)
