  1. Let's see, my last coaster ride was on New Texas Giant--at NIGHT! (I hope this picture isn't too big...) Yours truly stands proudly in front of New Texas Giant's entrance.
  2. And yep, I heard the "clucking" sound whenever someone goes into the Chicken Coop, and I got a really good chuckle out of it--as did most of the other riders.
  3. In 1995, I was dragged onto the original Texas Giant at SFOT by my stepsister; she simply slammed me into the seat, put the seatbelt on, and pulled down on the lap bar. I had no choice but to ride the sucker, but after two-plus minutes, I thoroughly enjoyed it. So when I returned to SFOT back in 2009, Texas Giant was in need of a major improvement; although the ride was VERY rough, it was still my favorite throughout the park. Eventually, I got to see Texas Giant's renovation through TPR's site and major news outlets, but this year, I decided to get a Play Pass and try out this "New" Texas Giant for myself. What a ride it would be! At first, I seriously considered chickening out and putting myself in the "Chicken Coop" because I wasn't sure how I was gonna react to the ride's forces, but I figured "what the heck, I'll do it" as I put the bag I was carrying in the bin and boarded the black train. The horn wasn't working today, so the ride op tried to calm my nerves a bit before we were dispatched. Going up that first lift reminded me of the old TG, but I started to think (and say out loud) "what the hell did I sign up for!?" The moment the black train went over the precipice and into the first drop, my mouth was spewing out words that start with "S" and rhymes with "SPIT." Once that train hit the first "bunny hop" just before the first 90-degree turn, I KNEW that NTG was going to be a very different animal than the original. I swear to God that my rear end flew out of my seat for a good second on the third bunny hop after the overbank. More S-bombs followed as I felt those pops of airtime after the midcourse brake, and the tunnels in the ride's finale added some more charm. Overall, I'd give this thing an eleven out of ten if I wanted to. For those who wish to pay a visit to SFOT, ride NTG first before anything else. Here are some things of note as I rode NTG today: 1. The horn and fire-spewing derrick thingy wasn't working today. 2. Only the red and black trains were running. 3. The wait time averaged around 20 minutes.
  4. I've said this on the SFOT Facebook page, but I will say it again: holy effing mother of effs, New Texas Giant looks to be awesome!
  5. I've been a lurker around here for a long time, but all I have to say about the New Texas Giant is this...HOLY EFF! As SFOT is technically my home park (I grew up in the D-FW area), I think the new Giant's gonna shatter all expectations and hopefully win some major awards. Hopefully I can be able to make it to Arlington when TPR visits.
  6. Canyon Blaster at the AdventureDome in Las Vegas! http://cache.rcdb.com/pictures/picmax/p10892.jpg
  7. This is gonna be one sick ride. I am SO looking forward to heading to Arlington next year and riding it.
  8. While I was in Las Vegas several weeks ago for spring break, me and a friend--who actually won a car on "The Price is Right"--decided to take a trip to the AdventureDome at Circus Circus to take in some thrills. Now, we both experienced the Rim Runner, which was a pretty decent water ride, but when it came to riding Canyon Blaster, he decided to chicken out--leaving me to tackle the 2,423 feet long coaster by myself. I boarded the train, and the first thing I thought to myself was "where the hell is the seatbelt on this thing?" I knew I was screwed the moment the shoulder bars went down: here I was, on an Arrow-built corkscrew coaster for the first time, about to go up the chain lift, and all the while I tried to avoid swearing and cussing up a storm. Unfortunately, the four-letter obscenities that start with "s" popped out as soon as the coaster lurched--and I say lurched even thought I sat in the front-left seat--into its first drop and loop. One loop and a double corkscrew later, I'm screaming my happy butt off until I get to the station, and when I got off the thing, I was dizzy for a few minutes. So, what did I think about Canyon Blaster? Well, for a guy that doesn't like things that go upside-down, this was actually a pretty decent coaster experience. Even though I banged my head on the back of the seat during the double loop, the ride felt really smooth. I enjoyed all the screaming and swearing, and I probably would love to ride it again. OVERALL SCORE: 3/5
  9. You know what's funny? I never expected a thread like this to be really big--and yet, this is coming from a guy who shares a user name with the topic of this thread! I remember the first time riding this legendary woodie back in 1995 for one reason: my stepsister dragged me on it kicking and screaming when I was growing up. When I was regularly going to SFoT thanks to a season pass, Texas Giant used to be my favorite coaster of the bunch. I will miss the roughness, but I can't wait until it opens back up--you'll know I'm gonna put myself up to riding it and Titan for sure. (and yes, I've never rode Titan)
  10. I know most of you in here have ridden a roller coaster that made you feel like you were gonna die--either because of the ride itself was way too rough or the restraints were too tight; I have ridden quite a few of these "death machines." Right now, the Texas Giant comes to my mind. So, I was wondering, what was YOUR favorite "roller-coaster death machine?"
  11. Last March, I took a trip to Los Angeles to see a taping of "The Price is Right" starring now-former host Bob Barker. I compared the experience of the taping to a ride on a wild roller-coaster! So I present to you an on-ride POV of one of my many RCT3 creations; it is called "The Price is Right--Ultimate Thrill", a B&M-style coaster. Note that I don't have the track file for you; I forgot to save it like an idiot. Also, this was made using "COASTER DESIGNER" mode in RCT3, so don't gripe about the theming. The track itself represents the colors of the "turntable" set seen on "The Price is Right"; the cars represent the back curtains of the studio. Because I can't embed it onto this post, I'll give you the link. Here it is, and enjoy! "The Price is Right--Ultimate Thrill" (RCT3 On-ride POV)
  12. Named after the legendary Shockwave at Six Flags Over Texas, this looping coaster takes riders down the first drop and into back-to-back vertical loops. Following some large "bunny hops", the coaster heads into a"semi-cloverleaf" type element--where the train turns left at a 90-degree angle, crosses the apex, then turns left at another 90-degree angle and proceeds to the next set of large "bunny hops". After arriving at the mid-course brake run, the coaster dives right, then turns left into the first of two corkscrews. After making some turns, the coaster heads into the second corkscrew and a final 90-degree banked turn, before hitting the final brake run. If you need the stats, just PM me; I'll post them as soon as I can. This is the "double loop" as featured in Shockwave (RCT3). [LoopingRC]Shockwave.trk Shockwave (RCT3 Looping Coaster)
  13. Well, I enjoy riding the Texas Giant (and Judge Roy Scream) too, but I remember being dragged on it when I was a kid! Batman was a new experience for me as I've never been on a looping coaster in my life before that. Unfortunately, I haven't got around to riding Titan yet.
  14. How are you doing? My name is TexasGiant1982, and I just started to become a coaster fanatic. I currently attend Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where I will be pursuing a History major. My favorite coaster of all-time has got to be the Texas Giant; that's why I chose the Texas Giant to be part of my name.
