  1. Robb - You haven't been on Universe of Energy since 1996? How is this even possible? I think I've ridden it at least five time *on two separate trips to EPCOT* this year (I've actually been to WDW three times this year on separate trips. I know, it's a sickness, I'm dialing it back, starting by not renewing my season pass. You'll be happy to know I didn't ride the big (gay boat ride? no, that's the Land) lesbian dinosaur ride last week when I was there. For once. (But I always make time for Turtle Talk.) Yes, it's outdated, tone-deaf compared to today's environmental issues, and incredibly corny - but it also has Alex Trebeck and Activia Lady and Bill Nye the used-to-be-popular-Science guy! I go because the music is awesome and the pavilion itself is still rather spectacular.
  2. to me, this is the most amazing non-EPCOT thread ever. does anyone know what most of those flatrides go for these days? I wonder if the prices have actually increased with inflation since the 70s. I've always thought there was something "odd" about the Omni/CNN Center... I remember going when I was really young (well after the park closed) but the place had some sort of theme park vibe to it. And it still does--I couldn't quite put my finger on it but the World of Sid & Marty Krofft series was really illuminating... The pictures of Cedar Point are amazing! so many trees!
  3. I really like the pics of you and your family. I first visited in 1984 - Horizons was open by then and it blew me away... been back a million times and made it back in october for the 25th (right after the TPR trip to Korea - I didn't anticipate the jetlag) I started a little site - fixepcot.com - trying to "fix" some of the problems.
  4. hey from seattle! this is an outstanding POV Robb. I like the fact that you kept the wind noise--it really gives a good sense of speed. Maverick was good - I rode it a few weeks ago on the last day of the season- it feels like a giant bucking bronco in some ways. Airtime is ridiculous and the second launch out of the tunnel is pretty intense! (it's a really different ride from Atlantis Adventure in Lotte World, despite them being from the same "family"
  5. close - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6205493215805836919&q but it's a geodesic dome, not a complete sphere
  6. SSE was the first geosphere - may still be the only "real" geosphere for all I know. I am extremely happy the wand is coming down. If anyone listens to Inside the Magic "Skipper Ben" read my e-mail on the air today. My site, fixepcot.com talks about it. I think I am possibly a geek. Maybe I need a new hobby.
  7. since seeing the video, I've been thinking about the new sub ride - you know the part that is the coolest? the part at the dock when you're still in the water when you start moving. **SPOILER ALERT** when they take you out of the water and show you the Epcot show, my interest sort of wanes. I think Disney will get quite a bit of mileage out of the marketing campaign - lotsa people have really fond nostalgic memories of the submarines.
  8. I just watched a video of the sub voyage in DL - from what I can see it is a LOT like The Seas with Nemo, except inside a sub. disneyandmore.blogspot.com/2007/06/finding-nemo-submarine-voyage-full-ride_11.html
  9. I thought Nemo at Epcot could have been better, to be honest. But I remember the original Living Seas being booooooring (though the hydrolators were awesome!) I have nostalgic memories of the sub ride at WDW but never rode the DL version... but you're right, if it's like the Epcot ride but "in a sub" it's probably not as exciting as they've hyped it. btw, this: may* contain a likeness to one Ricky Brigante, host of the insanely (absurdly?) popular "Inside the Magic" WDW-specific podcast who won a "Disney Dream Job" and picked the HM for his assignment. (I may be new around here but I am indeed a geek. ) [* - I've only seen really crappy pictures of Mr. Brigante.]
