  1. I live in Cincinnati and Kings Island is my home park and I make yearly trips to Cedar Point. It always takes me about 3.5 hours to get there
  2. Hmmm..."2 down, One to Go".......obviously this is referring to the other two Cedar Fair Coasters that have been announced, and Cedar Point's being the next one. Also by grouping three things together (..."2 down, One to Go"...) it could reflect similarity between the three things. Seeing that the other two coasters are the same theme (Dale Earnhardt) and same name ('Intimidator' ).....one would think that Cedar Points coaster would also be themed the same..... And also there's the whyte lightning connection, which was the speculated name of Carowinds Coaster....another connection to the other 2 coasters..... Also the three X's on the whiskey bottle seem to also support the idea of three similar things. I also read that Dale Earnhardt Inc. had signed on to the investment at Carowinds and kings Dominion... and if they signed on with those Cedar Fair parks....I would think they would sign on with cedar Point also. Just another observation...Crystal Rock is a campground in sandusky. probably meaningless though... I hope it's not a Dale Earnhardt themed ride.... thats just lame IMO.
  3. Question. I went to Cedar Point in early June and was disapointed because Millennium Force's lift hill did not light up at all. Was this just a temporary thing, or have they done away with the lights on the hill?
  4. Went to Kings Island on Sunday the 26th Diamondback - 30 min. wait Rode in the very back. First hill was great. Definitely not as good as MF's first hill as I've heard some people say. Also, I am a person that doesn't really care for airtime that much. Airtime is good, but Speed and Height are what I prefer. I was actually disappointed in the height. It really didn't look all that big from any angles. In person, the first hill looked like it was around the size of Mavericks... obviously it isn't, but did look that way. The speed was pretty good at first, but didn't seem all that fast through the rest of the ride. Airtime was good. Got wet on the splashdown. Overall I think Diamondback is easily the best ride at the park. However, I don't believe it was anywhere near the perfect reviews its been gettin. In my book it would be around the 4th or 5th best ride in Ohio. Very solid ride that is way overhyped. but then again, airtime doesn't really do anything much for me
  5. I had a situation at Cedar Point last weekend when I went. After a long day of riding Coasters and such, My friends and I rode Millennium Force around 11:30pm. While waiting in the loading station about to ride, one of the trains went by behind us, and my friend said"it smelled like someone barfed on it." Well he was right and they had to clean barf off of the seats of our train. Once they were done, they only filled the front third of our train....... After riding it, the hill did not give me butterflies or seem extremely intense like it usually does, and the other hills gave me zero airtime. I went away feeling like Maverick was definitely the better ride. Now before all the MF bashers come out of the woodwork, keep in mind that I've been going to Cedar Point once in the summer, and once for Halloweekends every Season for the past six seasons, and have ridden everything every time..... Millennium Force has always been my favorite. When I rode Maverick the first time last summer, I thought that it might be better than MF, but after riding MF again that idea was soon gone. I felt the same way after my fall visit last year. Maverick was very good, but definitely not better than MF in my book... So I guess my questions are: Do you think only having 1/3 of the train full would affect the ride? Do you think riding in the front of the train would make a big difference? I personally think it was a combo of the two What say ye'? Oh yea and if anybody would like me to do a trip review I will just let me know!
  6. Haha I decided to do a search for the guy I mentioned a couple posts back. and I found a couple videos of him. Apparently He's there everyday and does this all the time. The park must pay him to do this. I actually thought that might be the case, but its still funny. *none of the videos are from the time I went. Just do a youtube search on "cedar point guy" and you should find some results. ...and remember he does this the ENTIRE time you stand in line. lol
  7. At Cedar Point, Two years ago, my friends and I were waiting in line for Millenium Force. We hopped in line a little before closing time. If you've never been on Millennium Force at night... 1 - you definetly should ride at night because its about a million times better. 2 - The lines/crowd/queues are really crazy and fun at night. Moreso than any other place/ride I've ever been to/on. The people are loud and are all ready to party. They have great techno/electronica music and sometimes have DJ's at that little booth. +Plus The night display of MF's track is by far one of the coolest/best I've ever seen if not the best. back to the story.... well this particular night, there was a DJ there and the place was just rockin. Everyone was having a great time. We were talking to all the other people in line and meeting each other which is rare because usually when you and your crew are standing in lines, you only talk to each other and are afraid to talk to other people right? lol. Well, suddenly we notice a young (college age) white guy a couple rows ahead of us wearing a Green hooded sweatshirt w/ the hood up, listening to a portable CD player, and rapping (very loudly) along with whatever was playing in his CD player. This guy was alone, by himself in line. He starts to catch the attention of everybody else in line. The funniest thing is that he wasn't rappin to anybody or for anybody; he was rapping just to himself for his own entertainment. People tried to talk to him and get his attention, but nobody could; he was off in his own world. At the end of every song he would scream "Woo" in a Ric Flair style. Well the ENITRE crowd and line for MF had found about this guy, and practically every single person in line was taking pictures/filming this guy with cellphones/cameras etc. There was so much footage taken of this guy that night, there has to be pics or a clip of him somewhere on the internet. well when he finally made it onto the train, he was still going at it, and the ride attendant tried to take his CD player, but everyone else on the ride and still in line started chanting to let him keep it while he rode, so she let him keep it while he rode. When his train came back into the station, he was doing the "WOO!" thing like rapid fire. So one of the ride attendants brought the PA Microphone to him while he was still sittin in the train, and he gave a huge amplified "WOO!" over the loudspeaker, and instantly became a legend. The whole walk back to the car you could hear people Imitating the"woo!" and reminescing (sp?) about that nut. Pure fun and Insanity
  8. ***SPOILERS**** lol o yea and I think the Maverick line is one of the funnest lines to wait in. The whole ride area including the lines and queues (sp?) is themed really well IMO. Sure, there could be more theming, but really CP doesn't theme too much and Maverick is still prolly the best themed ride at the park. The queue area and track area is mostly all fenced in a farm/western style. There is alot of western landscaping. The first big sets of queues sits on the side of a bright blue pond. the line the goes around the edge of a pond and up into an old frontier/barn building that hangs over the pond. Meanwhile there are several speakers all over that play country and western music.
  9. hmmm. I'm not sure all I can tell you is about the times when I rode because frontiertown is kinda away from everything else. I got in line the first time around 3pm and got off the coaster around 4:15pm. The second time I rode we got in line at 9:20pm and after a breakdown while i was in the train about to be launched which lasted about 15 min, and after riding it , it was 10:45pm. so it was around 1 hr. 15 min wait during two of the busiest times.
  10. yes it all does contribute to the ride experience, but don't look at them as numbers or stats, just think of how the entire ride experience was and then compare. As far as going on a friday.......... Your lines should not be too bad. I went the 10th which was a Saturday, and the longest I waited was 1hr, 15 min for Maverick. Also, I arrived at 11pm and had ridden everything but the kiddy rides by 6pm. Everyone we talked to said that the lines were much shorter on Friday, and the longest they waited was 45 min. Given that the 22nd is closer to peak season, I'm gonna say you'll prolly be waiting around 1hr maybe a little more for Maverick and MF. TTD will prolly run you around 45min to and hour. Magnum will prolly be 45min. Wicked Twister will prolly be about 30min. Mantis will prolly be 30-45min Any more ? I'll try to help
  11. haha I meant as far as "official" stats/facts go, like exact mph, exact hill height, how many seconds of airtime, the exact degree of inversions, and whatnot. And I never tried to use my ratings to defend or argue over anything. The numbers I gave were just my own personal ratings and scales, and in no way reflect anyone besides myself. therefore no one should quote my own opinionated ratings, and I would never try to use my ratings in an argument over rides against someone else. The only reason I used numbers to rate with was to show that there was a degree of separation between the rides because honestly they are all extremely great rides. My reference of number crunching referred to facts/stats; not opinions
  12. Some of you posters need to get off of your number crunching high-horses. Who cares how many G's or exact mph, or how many milliseconds of difference in airtime you get or how many stengloozal dives or watever the coaster does. Its about the ride experience! I've ridden many, many coasters, and about 90% of the time I notice no difference between the "official" stats of coasters. Favorites is all about personal preference. EX: I have heard so many people talk about the argument over which is better MF or S:ROS. The majority of people that argue this have not been on both coasters. The ones that have been on both each have their own opinion. S:ROS fans will say how much better airtime their coaster has. MF fans say their coaster has more speed and is much taller with the better turns. Conclusion: If you prefer more airtime you will prolly like S:ros better. If you like speed and height better you will prolly like MF better. Personally: I don't get the whole airtime thing. I don't ever seem to notice any of these outstanding airtime elements. It feels the same as the rest of the ride. I do not notice any of those superb airtime elements that people talk about on S:ROS. The layout for both S:ROS and MF are kinda similar, and IMO S:ROS is just a slower, smaller version of MF. Don't get me wrong its still prolly one of the top 3 rides in the world, but IMO MF is heads and shoulders above S:ROS. I think a more fair comparison would be S:ROS and Magnum XL200.....they both are about the same speed, height, distance, and people seem to think they both have the best "airtime." Personally I think Magnum XL200 is far too uncomfortable to enjoy, and can't rate it properly. If Magnum XL200 got new trains that are more comfortable and roomier, it might deserve its spot in the top 3. When I rate rollercoasters or try to do polls of the best I use two simple scales. 1=Fun Factor.......How much fun is the ride experience? 1-10 2=KYOYA factor.....How much does the ride Knock You On Your A$$ because of intensity/crazyness? 1-10 and when I rate I try to imagine that Its my first ride on the rides in question. (EX: If I were to goto CP today and ride MF and Maverick today for the very first time, which would I think would be better? In which I think MF would be better.) Ratings: MF: FF=10, KYOYA=10+ Wicked Twister: FF=9, KYOYA=7 Top Thrill Dragster: FF=9, KYOYA=9+ Magnum XL 200: FF=8, KYOYA=8 Mantis: FF=8, KYOYA=7 Raptor: FF=10, KYOYA=8 Maverick: FF=10+, KYOYA=9+
  13. I also just got back from a weekend trip to cedar point. We went to the park on saturday. I got in the park around 11am and rode pretty much every single ride thats worth riding by 6pm in this order: Demon Drop, Raptor, Wicked Twister, Power Tower, Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum Xl 200, Skyhawk, Maverick, Mantis, and Millennium Force. Then we went and ate at TGI Fridays on the beach, and Because of bad service, we didn't get back into the park until around 8:30pm. We rode Maverick again at night, and Millennium Force again at night. Maverick is Incredible! Probably the funnest ride in the park easily. There are so many great parts to this ride. The beggining lift hill lifts you faster than MF and does not slow down whatsoever when you get to the top; you fly right over the first hill and the corkscrews and turns are really intense! Halfway through the ride, you come to the tunnel where you come to a complete stop and sit for a second or two. then you slowly creep forward, then just TAKE OFF and shoot out of the tunnel which seems really fast! After some more crazy turns and whatnot you pass by the water and seem extremely close to the water! The water cannons did work btw. My new list of favorite coasters at Cedar Point 1. Millennium Force 2. Maverick 3. Top Thrill Dragster 4. Raptor 5. Wicked Twister 6. Magnum xl 200 7. Mantis Overall Maverick was an incredible ride and blew my expectations right out of the water. It really comes very close to MF IMO, and the only reason MF gets the no. 1 spot is because of the WOW factor. Maverick is much better than Top Thrill Dragster and Raptor IMO. Magnum is way too uncomfortable to enjoy the ride. I fully expect Maverick to crack the top 10 steel coaster list next year, and actually would place it at no.2 or no.3! It really is that good
